Rei Kikukawa, who doesn't wear glasses, promotes Hoya's glasses

TOKYO —

Actress Rei Kikukawa, 30, who doesn’t wear glasses, is the campaign girl for Hoya’s new REMARK brand.

Hoya said Kikuawa, who is a graduate of the University of Tokyo, was chosen to promote the new glasses because she projects an image of intelligence and activeness. Kikukawa said, “Well, even though I don’t wear glasses, maybe I should from now on, since everybody says they look good on me.”

Sure they look good on her. She could wear anything (garlic included) and still look hot.

I don't get it when people say stuff looks good on beautiful people. She's hot. Put her in absolutely anything and... she'll still be hot.

I think Google sums up all the comments above better than anything:

She is a graduate of the University of Tokyo where she studied architecture, mathematics and biology. She was scouted by an agent while shopping, and eventually came to be represented by Oscar Promotions. Her first major role came in 2002 when she was chosen to co-host the Sunday night NTV show "Bankisha." In addition to her public career, she has volunteered for work with the UNHCR and spent time at a refugee camp in Dabaab, Kenya. Despite her collegiate pedigree, her lack of knowledge on a variety of subjects was exposed on a variety/quiz show, and along with her doing bra commercials, she became classified as an "obaka-aidoru" or "dumb idol" - entertainers known for their good looks and lack of intelligence.

Still I wish they would bring more hot chicks to top unis, especially Todai. who cares bout brains anyway?

Well capone I'd say Todai is a bit above the level of University of Phoenix so it can't be all that bad.

if you look at various rankings, it is in top 20 in the world (usually 10~20) and number one in Asia. Not very bad, but they definitely have to change that horrible entrance examination and the good-for-nothing curriculum of the first 2 years

    She looks good with glasses.

rjd...maybe so, but since todai is supposed to be the top uni in japan that's not much of a stretch is it...try actually talking to companies who try to hire todai grads and hear for yourself about how self-centered and clueless most of them are

  • rjd_jr at 10:17 AM JST - 18th May

Right capone, and you personally have spoken to these companies that try to hire todai grads, and you have factual evidence to back up your statements. I believe ya. Todai is a well respected school, and the fact that Rei graduated there is more of an accomplishment than others here who have either not attended post high school education or attended some no name or lower tier institution. Good for Rei san, talented and beautiful as always.

The way the Japanese educational system works, if you dont get to the top Kindergarten you are pretty much out of it for the next 12 years.

Most of the rejects dont even graduate from 8th grade and become illiterate freeters.

The ones that actually stand a chance are burned out by everyday Juku until 8 pm and they become "hikkokomori" or whatever the term for when they are "home schooled"

anyway, to give you a real anecdote, my former wall street company in NYC used to bring groups of new hires from Todai and all they would do for 2 months was sleep at the back of the class. They had zero communication skills, only a handful were any good. they may be intelligent, but the Japanese system does not teach them to think outside the box. they were just waiting their days to go back to tokyo where their sempais could teach them the tasks by rote. companies in Japan prefer to hire blank slates with hopefully above average intelligence so they can mold them their way, so the less they know, the better.

    there's my 2 cents.

by the way, i find it strange that this girl was a triple major in college, given that there's not much you can learn in 4 years. I have seen graduates of "English Literature" that can't speak a word of it.

A celebrity endorsing a product they don't use?! What is this world coming to?

  • Loki520 at 09:12 PM JST - 18th May

Well, it can't be any worse than some of these talento running around wearing FRAMES without any lenses. Whose the dude that always has those yellow monsters on a few years back. Don't see him much anymore, but he's still around once in a while. I've seen some others.

She certainly isn't the first JN idol to display thier "intelligence" with a set of frames/glasses.
