I just finished watching Kurutta no Kajitsu for the first time the day before yesterday, and it was mentioned as the follow-up to Taiyo no Kisetsu. (Both were written by Shintaro Ishihara and featured his brother, Yujiro, who became very popular as a result of the two, in starring roles.)
"Bleeding around the brain" sound a little odd. According to Japanese news reports she died from a subarachnoid hemorrhage, which I think is a kind of stroke. Whatever the cause, it's very sad.

She has been suffering for a long time, with her husband taking care of her and working at the same time. Rest in peace.
