R.E.M.are true legends! They made some fantastic music during their era. Pretty awesome guys who do lot's of fund raising events for a bunch of causes.

REM had some great songs in the 80s and early 90s. How they stayed together 31 years and survived the amount of substances they did beggars belief!

They were generous not just to fans (averaging one LP every other year for 30 years is amazing) but also with fellow musicians, like the time Peter Buck produced my favorite Uncle Tupelo album, March 16-20 1992, for free.

Had Murmur,Reckoning and Fables of the Reconstruction within weeks of each release.Didn't get to see them live until 1986.It is hard to describe to the MTV and Napster generations the following they had back then, most of it generated by word of mouth and college radio.

Night Swimming is a tune that often comes to mind. Great band!!

Saw them in a college auditorium in 1986. None of them are virtuoso musicians, but they had a certain something.

I am devastated! They were my favorite band up there with Wham UK and all those great bands from the 80s and 90s that they still play night and day on AFN radio.

Old people who know when to fade out. It's an endearing quality.

    I hope U2 are listening.

five years out, reunion tour. Also IMHO, U2 is the most overrated band ever.

Harsh words there, Zurconium! u2s early stuff was great - admittedly their recent stuff isnt so good. But look at other bands like the Rolling Stones who basically have been garbage for the past 30 years, yet still make money somehow!

R.E.M. were one of the first bands that could be described as "Indie" in the modern sense. And they were among the few bands of their era that went from being college radio darlings to mainstream success. And they always had a good song or two on the radio. Better than most bands can say.

The missus and I listed to Murmur today on the way back from the Georgia mountains where we went to buy apples. One of the great debut albums of all time.

Their music matches the feel of the southern scenery almost as much as another great group from these parts: The Connells.

They had a great career and we wish them well.

"The skill in attending a party is knowing when it's time to leave"

I've seen quite a few people without that knowledge over the years.

Better return them, you're breaking the boycott, heh heh.
