Aimi Satsukawa celebrates Coming of Age Day early

Idol-cum-actress Aimi Satsukawa visited Daien Temple in Meguro Ward this week, dressed in a colorful kimono and offered prayers for her future, as part of the upcoming Coming of Age Day held to mark entry into adulthood.

Satsukawa, who turned 20 last August, said she had been preparing for the celebrations for two years. She wrote on a small wooden plaque that she hoped to become an independent woman, and said: “I want to experience various things while I’m in my 20s, and get married by 33!” When asked about drinking alcohol, she answered: “My face goes red after two beers, but I want to find out how much I can drink.”

Satsukawa will appear in six movies this year, including “Nakitai toki no kusuri,” which opens on Saturday. “I love working on movies. It’d be great if I could win an award someday,” she said.

Trying to find out how much you can drink will certainly help her experience various things and may even lead to a shot-gun wedding well before her 33rd birthday.

Well it is called "Asian flush". It is due to an acetaldehyde dehydrogenase deficiency. From wikipedia:

The result is the accumulation of acetaldehyde. Approximately half of people of Asian descent are considered to be sensitive to alcohol due to this condition. ... acetaldehyde is a known carcinogen; recent research suggests that alcohol flush-afflicted individuals consuming alcohol continually may be at a higher risk for alcohol-related diseases, such as liver and esophageal cancers and digestive tract cancer.

Haven't we who live here heard this from every other Japanese 20 year old. Is this like a set phrase they are tought to parrot back. I've heard this continually from young women for 12 years.
