AKB48 singer Yuko Oshima, 25, who will “graduate” from the group in June, will be continuing her movie career. She will appear in “Kami no Tsuki," a film based on a novel written by Naoki awarding-winning author Mitsuyo Tsunoda, and directed by Daihachi Yoshida.
In the story, Rika Umezawa, a bank clerk played by Rie Miyazawa, misappropriates a huge amount of money from the bank. Oshima plays a teller working with Umezawa. Her character doesn’t appear in the original novel, according to TV Asahi.
Oshima, who has already been working as an actress, said, “It was interesting to figure out how I should play the part. I was completely fascinated by Miyazawa her because she is a lovely woman who is as delicate as silk and shines strongly and beautifully.“
The film will be released next year.

It's good to see a performer branch out, though I've never seen anything Miss Oshima has played in so I can't entirely say whether its a good thing or not.

Nice. :)

Good to see the verb "graduate" used within speech marks. I would have thought the translator could have done a better job though. Look up "卒業" and you will indeed find "graduate"; but, given this is a website aimed primarily at English speakers, and given that we don't use the word in such a way in English ("graduate" from a pop group!), why not just say "left the group"...?!

Because AKB48 is like an academy, so members can be said to graduate.

AKB48 is a marketing machine, use of the word "graduation" is marketing, nothing more.

Using the word "Graduation" has been a time honored tradition of the idol group concept. Anyways, congrats to my oshi for keeping at it in the entertainment world. She deserves it all. GO YUKO!

i predict she will "graduate" from her acting career in a very short time.
smithinjapan
The fact that she needed a part written in for her instead of getting one based on already established characters is somewhat indicative of mere 'tarento', not talent. Best of luck to her all the same.
Wolfpack
I saw her in a drama not too long ago and as far as Japanese actors and actresses go, she is pretty good.

There, I fixed it for you.

All the best to Yuko Oshima though, the pittance of a salary Yuko has earned in comparison to the reptilian Yasushi Akimoto , a term of endearment you understand, is commiserate to his 'carrousel' employment methods. If only the girls had independent managing agents coupled with membership of a organization like the AMP (Artists, Managers, Performers) Alliance, would bring Mr Akimoto full square into the 21st century.

Sad how some past members had "graduated" into pornography ... I guess once you've had a taste of fame & fortune it's a life you can't give up.

Well, if your body is your only marketable asset, your options after "graduation" are pretty limited.
lostrune2
Might as well. A music career would probably be out of reach.

Hi jojo_in_japan, What a legacy for Yasushi Akimoto to be proud of, out of the 79 members their average age is 18.12 years, 25 are under 18 with the youngest 14 and the most senior 25, 9 are 15, Akimoto is fundamentally failed in his duty of care, for every graduation into AV, what future is awaiting the youngest?.
oldman_13
Hope she graduates to more 'mature' endeavours, if y'all know what I mean.

Well, it's entirely a girl's choice what she does with her body. After a taste of fame, some people don't want to go back to the 7-11 drudgery.

Absolutely Fandango Spoonmonkey I am lamenting the career choice, as apposed to the morality of the AV industry, all I have read is in some countries AV is connected to organised crime and has inherent personal health risks.
I am assuming that AKB48 artists management have full access to a range of career choices in many strands of the entertainment industry. After devoting all of there teenage years to the academy it seems a drastic decision.

The entertainment industry here is all linked here anyway so no surprises...

She is lovely and talented and will go on to great things. i can't wait to buy her first DVD in Akihabara

I still find odd that Oshima chose to graduate at her age, she should have done it much earlier, it looks to me that this "talent" is an underachiever.
But if she can prove to be a good actress in the movie, I wish for her success in her career...

Dude.... Yuko should still singing... I really feel her voice in Not Yet so I hope she dont leave Not Yet even if she graduates from AKB like Sayaka did with DiVA.... anyways, I wish luck to her in her new career (whatever she decide to do).....but if she leave music I will be forced to leave her....
