TOKYO —

Singer Akiko Wada, 58, gave American actor Will Smith, 40, a massive chocolate weighing about 40 kilograms at the Japan premiere of his new movie “7 Pounds” on Monday night. The chocolate was 45 centimeters wide and 140 centimeters long and had the title of the movie in Japanese decorated across the top.

Smith wasted no time getting into it, attracting laughter from the crowd. Wada said: “I’m a big fan of Will. I got excited about meeting him last night, and couldn’t sleep. I’ve watched a lot of his movies, and when I do, they always make me hope I can encourage and inspire people as well.”

40kg of chocolate. Even if he gives about 10x more than one needs to all his family, it'll still be wanting.

Hmmm, instead of 7 punds the Japanese title for the movie can be 40 kilos....

Jokes aside, I have a lot of respect for Wada Akiko. Truly a J tarento senpai who has her sense of character and is not a synthetic manufacutred product of the J Tarneto factory line.

    A fine ambassador for kansai!

I'm not sure if 40 kilos of milk chocolate constitutes "food" of any sort. If anything, giving it to the homeless could be perceived as a form of abuse. ;-)

why not a 7 pound chocolate bar? that would have been more appropriate. quality better than quantity...

Wada seems a bit more OK with an African American like Will Smith than she was with Bob 'The Beast' Sapp when he tried to give a kiss on TV a few years ago. The degree of the recoil she exhibited when he approached her was terribly embarrassing, and it showed very clearly on his face. Ouch.

This thing mustn't have been too good, was it even in wide-release in the U.S. before getting dumped on the overseas markets?

Well, it could be because one is "the beast" and the other is WILL FRICKIN SMITH and race was not a factor.

blvtzpk, there is a world of difference between feeding a man of normal size and demeanor a chocolate and having a man quite aptly nicknamed "beast" moving in for a kiss. Skin color hardly factors in to the equation. Its quite natural to feel apprehension when a man famous for anything but gentleness moves toward you.

blvtzpk, rereading your comments, I think they might be more neutral than I at first thought. It just really was not necessary to point out that they are both African American. Also, now I think you meant that the embarrassment was Bob Sapp's, not Wada's. Yes or no? Because I can't see anything she has to be embarrassed about.

She purchased the chocolate for a real cheap deal, perhaps imported from "melamine enriched" parts of the world, lol...

I think if you'd seen the scene with Sapp and Wada you'd understand more clearly.
