Ang Lee sees clout of Chinese film awards growing

I don't know that it'll be bigger than Hollywood's market in 10 years, though it'll be bigger than now. And besides, a market being 'bigger' does not ensure it is better known or watched as much around the world. I mean Bollywood is MUCH bigger in terms of production, but not everyone's watching in the same ways as they consume Hollywood films.

Anyway, I like Lee. Excellent director (with a few duds under his belt).

In 10 year's time the market of Chinese films could be 10 times bigger than the Hollywood market. Alas the films will be watched mainly by Chinese speaking people alone. The region is rushing toward political and cultural isolationism at such breakneck speed that in 10 years time the two sides probably will have problem understanding each other's "feelings", let alone their movies.

With so many co-productions using pan-Asian casting in Chinese films- particularly with Taiwan- there can hardly be any trend toward cultural 'isolationism' as you claim. The next stage will be a Hollywood presence in China.

Sorry we might be talking about different kind of movies. Let's say when it's about some boisterous merrymaking kinds even men and animals can collaborate fantastically.

There will be more intelligent people around the world learning Japanese, Chinese and other Asian languages. The market will pick up and grow bigger, Chinese investors are investing big bucks in Hollywood.
