TOKYO —

Fashion model and celebrity Anna Umemiya, 37, received an award for best eyebrows on a female celebrity recently at an event held in Yurakucho by eyebrow guru Anastasia Soare.

Widely referred to as “The Definite Brow Expert,” Anastasia flew from Beverly Hills to Japan for several events and to dispatch her advice on the Japanese eyebrow scene.

Umemiya was given an award titled “Besuto mayu nisuto” - chosen for having the nicest eyebrows among Japanese female celebrities. Anastasia gave her the award and lavished her with praise, describing her as the Japanese Jennifer Lopez.

Umemiya, wearing a short pink piece that showed off her fine set of legs, said she was very happy to be chosen, adding: “I used to have a big complex about my eyebrows. In high school, they were three times thicker than they are now, and people used to call me (Donald) McDonald.”

Actor Shigeki Hosokawa, 38, won an award called “Sumato mayu nisuto,” given to the male celebrity with the most stylish eyebrows. Anastasia said he was the Japanese David Beckham.

Anastasia will also hold a special eyebrow event on the third floor of the Tobu Ikebukuro department store on Sunday from 2.30 p.m.

I think she would have made a great Donald.

I wonder where Ayako Imoto ranked in this contest...

I prefer women, and men, with their natural eyebrows. What's wrong with natural looks?

  • 0

    Fadamor

My eyebrows are NOT attractive if I leave them "au natural". I take a hedgeclipper to them at least once a month.

    Kwaabish

Natural looks? Uni-brows are not particulary attractive, me thinks....

OK, so no one's done it so far...

    "Best Eyebrowist"

Just when you thought theere couldn't be another '-ist' award.

I wonder if there will be another award like "Best Bikini Waxist ('Brazilian' Category)" - that I'd like to see.

    "Best toenailist"

"Stop me now before I '-ist' again!"

How about best nostril hair? Now with High Definition TV, you have to be real careful, to have them nice and clipped, trimmed, you know, say they are not out there in full view.

They fly someone in from Beverly Hills to consult? Feh. I'll give free, right here: STOP this practice of cutting & shaving the eyebrows. Tweeze away the stray ones, but leave the rest alone! Use a little pencil for accent, and clear mascara to groom, eh, viola! Eyebrows are the frame of the eyes, and the natural contour is best for more expression. Cutting and shaving makes everyone look the same, VACANT.

I understand that these "talents" have virtually zero chance of recognition on the international stage regarding their "celebrity" status, however these useless awards are completely ridiculous...I'm waiting for the best gaijin or most projectile vomiting award to be created...I'm sure I'll be a shoe in for those...

I can't tell for sure but it looks like Anna has a beautiful pair of thighs. I wish we had a bigger photo to she her legs fully. A very beautiful woman who has had quite few problems in her life. Next time JT, when you put a photo of a grogeous woman like Anna, please give us a much larger picture. A lot of Japanese girls have very skinny legs, especially the thighs and they are not in proportion with the rest of their bodies.

    Rugbyfan

Oooops!! Typing mistake: I meant to say gorgeous not grogeous.

It's fun to watch Anna's lovely brows furrow whenever she attempts to read anything deeper than Shojo Manga.

I suspect Rugbyfan was right first time.....

Somebody pass me a bowl of milk.

No way. The award should have gone to that "talento" who has the eyebrows drawn down all the way to the nostrils.

All of her own making. She shudda listened to her Dad.

At age 37. she's a bit old to be winning "titles" like this.

"Japanese eyebrow scene"!! Someone please tell me , this is all a bad dream.

  • 0

    terebiko

I suspect this is a secret attempt by the powers above to tell people not to shave off their eyebrows. At least she still has eyebrows, and she is nice to look at. Congrats to the eyebrow queen Anna Umemiya. Not so sure about guys who shape their eyebrows though...

Yes, I suspect a full-lenght photo would have been appreciated here.

Took me awhile to figure out what we were trying to say here, but after reading the two over and over again, I finally got it. It really raised my eyebrows for a few minutes there.

Ha ha ha, agreed with blue tiger. Someone has so much time to analyse eyebrow. We have inflation rate, climate change and recessions to think about. But it's ok, at least we knew what's going on around these people..
