Ariana Grande abruptly cancels Japan tour

American singer Ariana Grande has abruptly canceled her Japan tour. Grande, 22, had been scheduled to perform at Saitama Super Arena next Tuesday and Wednesday.

Earlier this week, the singer had mentioned about canceling four December concerts of her Honeymoon Tour, including one in Abu Dhabi on Thursday and a performance in London on Saturday. She said on Twitter: "Babies, I'm so sad I won't be able to make it abroad this December but I can't wait to see u (sic) & reschedule for next year. I love you so much."

In Japan, the announcement was delivered through the official website of her Japanese record label on Thursday night, with the message: "Due to the artist's inconvenience, we are forced to cancel her Japan Tour." It did not specify any reasons for the cancellation of the tour.

No new dates have been rescheduled and all tickets will be refunded.

She's a singer?

At least it will be safe to go to a Mr. Donuts until the new dates are set.

Well, I guess the Honeymoon is over.

She's a singer?

World famous. I'm guessing you're on the north side of 50 if you haven't heard of her.

Strangerland: "I'm guessing you're on the north side of 50 if you haven't heard of her."

Not necessarily. There are a lot of people who don't hear new names because they've shut off from the mainstream after all the exposure of AKB and similar groups in the media (here) all the time. I've heard the name a couple of times, but only by chance. There are lots of times when friends are talking about someone and I have to ask the same question, and I'm not north of 50 and DO read a lot of media (domestic and international).

In any case, curious why she had to cancel so many venues.

It did not specify any reasons for the cancellation of the tour.

She's planning to Chicago to sneak into Unified CML LLC, the largest doughnut factory in the country for Dunkin' Donuts

Apparently, she's very high maintenance.

Japan, consider yourselves lucky.

curious why she had to cancel so many venues.

Probably cuz (sic) nobody's heard of her and nobody bought any tickets!

3 ( +4 / -1 )

I'm 28 and I've only heard of her because of Donutgate. I have a toddler though so pretty much my music exposure is stuck in 2011...

Just the facts- Artists are forced to cancel when the ticket numbers don't look good

5 ( +7 / -2 )

I'd say it's due to poor sales. I'm not a fan, but you should've seen the ticket prices! Ridiculous.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

She's very popular with high school girls, ask me how I know!

I'm over 50 and I've heard of a pop singer "Ariana". I guessed this was the same person. I couldn't name or even hum a bit of her song(s) even if my life depended on it, though. I guess I'm not part of this "world" she's famous in.

She pulled out because it is not possible for her to sell out an arena. She is not a stadium act. A few nights in a smaller venue is a much better bet.

Ha-Ha, Strangerland got everyone whipped up. (Way to stir it up there) . . . . but I think most fans were able to catch her at SummerSonic @QVC Marine Stadium last Aug.

Saitama Super Arena is a terrible venue (soundwise) for live rock/pop concerts anyways.

Yep. She would be better off at smaller mid-scale concert halls like Zepp. Sam Smith is doing the the mid-scale halls and they are about the same level of popularity. She is cuter though haha

@Strangeland

Im 36 and have not got a clue who she is, and i love music.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

and i love music.

I love music too. How could you "not" know her? Although I stay away from mainstream teeny bopper western pop, I have heard of her. She sounds similar to M. Carrey, back when Carrey debuted in the late 80's / early 90's.

Kobe. Are we on the same planet? LoL-

I've heard of her name, but not any music. From what I understand, it's Tweeny music for adolescents. A shame her management couldn't sell enough tickets to make the tour worthwhile. Perhaps a redesign of expectations and a better alignment of venue sizes are in order.

Excuse my total ignorance, but what's all this Donutgate stuff? Something that happened in Japan?

Somebody making all that money doesn't have to work in December.

No Ginger: Excuse my total ignorance, but what's all this Donutgate stuff? Something that happened in Japan?

I wonder who bought those donuts.

Grande was seen on surveillance video in a doughnut shop, in July 2015, licking doughnuts that were on display and saying "I hate Americans. I hate America." She responded, writing that she is "extremely proud to be an American" and that her comments related to American obesity. She later released a video apology for "behaving poorly", saying that she felt "disgusted" with herself. The incident was parodied by The Muppets[180] and featured in Miley Cyrus' Saturday Night Live song cover of "My Way", about the regrets of summer 2015.

Apparently, she's very high maintenance financially for sure, but its her ego that that needs the most attention

My niece stood on line for this"talent" & was not happy with the show at all-it seems without a vocoder she sang in the key of "OOF#! !

My kids love her, she does have some catchy songs and alluring melodies, not my full cup of tea, but I get it. But the girl has some serious ego, self-centered issues, she'll grow of it, part of of being young and rebellious, but she did do some things this year which issed off a lot of people. Britney Spears turned out alright now at 34, so whatever trip this girl is on, she'll get over that phase too. I think sometimes people are a bit hard on her. She has done some things that would annoy you, but she's not shockingly outrageous like Miley Cyrus* take a moment and think about that one.

Who? Oh, the donut licker

1 ( +3 / -2 )

I always thought Ariana would be a beautiful name if our child was a daughter (turned out to be both boys), until I heard of this twat and the name's image was ruined. Just as well I didn't name my sons Beiber and Kayne.

She's a singer?

Say what you like about her choice of inane songs, but she's a more talented singer than 90% of what passes for pop music in Japan.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

terrible singer, JP has been spared.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Who?

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Expats in Japan who say they don't know here... SO!? You guys think just because you don't know her that she's not worth mentioning? The world keeps spinning and pop icons keep popping up, despite your sheltered/secluded/sequestered foreigner life in Japan.

Jalapeno nails it.
