Aya Ueto joins Japanese voice cast for 'Speed Racer'

TOKYO —

Actress Aya Ueto, 22, will dub the heroine’s voice in the Japanese-language version of “Speed Racer.” Ueto will supply the voice of Trixie, played by Christina Ricci, in the film directed by the Wachowski brothers.

“Trixie always teases Speed (main character),” said Ueto. “So I tried to be very animated in my voice characterization. After you watch this film, you will definitely feel like driving a car at top speed on the highway.”

The film, which bombed in the U.S., opens July 5.

Christina Ricci was great as Layla in Buffalo 66.

"After you watch this film, yo will definitely feel like driving a car at top speed on the highway"

Wouldn't that waste gasoline? And, hey, doesn't car racing waste a lot of gasoline?

Bombed in U.S. is right, I'd say it bombed worldwide. In the U.S. its total gross so far is a paltry 42 million dollars. Worldwide take is 33 million (box office mojo). Combined it's not even close to its reputed budget of over 120 million dollars.

God I hate the Japanese dubbing of movies. Everyone sounds like an anime character.

I would never consider going to see this movie...

...unless Ueto Aya's voice was in it.

I wonder if "Trixie" will be "Michi" for the Japanese version (the name of the original anime character from "Maha GO GO". It's hard to pronounce "To-Ri-Ki-Shi" in katakana English.

I hear the black vanners are working on their own film, to be called 'Speed Racist'

After this and Godzilla, it'll be a wonder if the Japanese ever let us work on another franchise again...

TPOJ - Hollywood did a pretty decent job with Shall We Dance. It's so good, it almost makes up for Speed Racer and Godzilla.

I love Ueto Aya but I refuse to see that movie it looks so horrible. Has anyone seen it?

Whats wrong with Speed Racer is the same as what was wrong with Miami Vice the movie. They didn't stick with what worked in the original series. I found the Speed Racer movie sooo stupid not cool and slick like the 70's Anime. They could even get the opening credits right. Wachowski brothers don't know sh*t about Speed Racer.....

CruchySaru, I've seen it. (girlfriend's son dragged me to it) It wasn't as bad as I expected, but that's not saying much as I expected the worst. But I have to disagree with VoXman. I think the movie was in the spirit of the original series, it's just that the original wasn't as good we remember it being. A couple of years ago, I happened upon an original episode on cable. My first thought was, "How did I ever stand this?!?" The answer, really is the same for every other show of that period (except for the original Fugitive): We only had three channels to choose from, so didn't know what 'good' was.

That said, I can't stand anything the Wachowski Brothers make, and this had their prints all over it.
