Aya Ueto to play Paris Hilton-like celebrity in new drama

TOKYO —

Actress Aya Ueto, 22, will play a celebrity who is the daughter of a hotel chain owner in her new TV drama “Celebrity and the Poor” on Fuji TV’s network. In the drama, Ueto’s character gets married to a so-called “working-poor” man with three children, against her father’s wishes.

Ueto said, “The girl I play has a totally different sense of values from mine. I enjoy playing diverse characters like that.” The drama will be aired from October.

"Let me see.... hair dyed until it's an awful blond colour, false eyecolour courtesy of contact lenses, famous for being famous, showing a lot of flesh, plastic surgery on the face, an absolute airhead, hopping from one bed to another, always with her LV bag. Yes, the typical Shibuya girl. Oh yeah, PH too."

Nice post, pukey. For all of you who think Aya Ueto is "hot," do you recall the pic of her on JT throwing out the first pitch at a pro baseball game a year or two ago? Yeah, those toothpick legs really got me going.

Give me a natural Japanese beauty any day over someone like Aya Ueto or Ebi-chan and all their cosmetic surgery.

Poor, hard working salarymen of The World, your luck has changed! You will marry a HOTTIE! Who says TV isn't real...

  • tokyotom at 11:38 AM JST - 12th August

Why are you listing her job requirements?

It's funny how Japanese speakers often come across as complete idiots when what they said is translated into English. Often the quotes are like "it was neat to be able to pretend to be a rapist" or "it has always been a dream of mine to model green pants" or something. Not that these people are all geniuses but usually it doesn't come across as quite so stupid in the native language. Anyway, I doubt Ueto meant to say (at least in public) that she can't relate to someone who is both a celebrity and a decent, down to earth person.

“The girl I play has a totally different sense of values from mine..."

What that means Aya only follows her parents instructions to the letter and will marry whichever rich, childless man they choose for her?

Shame - and how on earth does this storyline compare with the real Paris Hilton's self-centred and tasteless antics? I had visions of Aya in the series nobly rising above a leaked sex tape on the internet. That'd be an eye opener in Japan, the country where I saw "One Night In Paris" on sale in Tsutaya.

Sounds like the publicity people stretching an analogy way too far to me...

  • bamboohat at 04:42 PM JST - 12th August

Well, I don't about the show or her acting, but I'd certainly take her to paris and show her an eiffel tower!

  • Pukey2 at 10:08 PM JST - 12th August

I thought only good looking girls go on to being famous and popular in Japan. Does that include cross-eyed girls?

  • tokyotom at 10:05 AM JST - 13th August

i kinda agree with chard above, Japanese comments always sound lame-ass when translated into english, really vapid

  • Hughgarse at 11:41 AM JST - 13th August

that is low and tasteless... hope it bombs after the pilot

  • IchyaParadise at 01:31 PM JST - 14th August

All of her shows bomb anyway. Talk about a waste of food and air. Can't sing, can't act, and how the hell she stays on TV is beyond me.

  • chardk1 at 06:53 PM JST - 15th August

Same way all the little ingenues who can't sing and can't act stay on TV. She's cute.

  • martyman at 11:59 AM JST - 16th August

It will be a matter of time before someone gets a hold of her private videos and releases them on the internet.

  • nightvision at 09:23 AM JST - 5th October

Japanese-to-English translations are a good example of how many nuances are lost from a very contextual language to a very literal one. The vapidness of the translated remarks are directly proportional to the listener/reader's comprehension skills.
