Ayumi Hamasaki 1st artist to achieve 13 consecutive years of No. 1 albums

Ayumi Hamasaki, 32, will soon become the first artist in Japan to achieve 13 consecutive years of No. 1 albums after Oricon Album Rankings announced that her new album “Love Songs” is set to hit the top of the charts on Jan 3. The new album is Hamasaki’s 17th No. 1 album in total since her debut was released in 1999.
A track by Naoya Urata featuring Hamasaki, titled “Dream On,” is also set to hit the No. 1 spot in the singles chart on the same day. She will be the first album and single No. 1 position holder since pop group Arashi managed the same feat in 2007, three years and one month ago. It will be nine years and three months since Hamasaki has topped both charts simultaneously.

Sings well and a smart business woman. Would like to see her not wear false eye lashes and less makeup. However, I am glad she does not do that talento crap on TV. She is above that.

I really beg to differ. I've heard her sing in one of her concert DVDs while in a record shop. I really did wished she lip-synched. There are a lot of Japanese artists who can actually sing, but she is not one of them. Laughin' all the way to the bank, no doubt.

Well Madonna isn't exactly the greatest singer in the world either, but that hasn't stopped her being a success. Artists like these sell themselves as a package, and live singing ability is only a small part of it.

what no.1 again? I have to admit, I liked my share of her songs back in the days, 8 / 10 yrs ago, but now? Nothing. Lyrics sck, music scks, its just same boring cr*p. And she has to stop doing surgery, she looks all weirded out.

Congrats to her, but the last 9 years of albums, at least, have sucked. She peaked 10 years ago and should have quite then. This is another chance for her to do so while her reputation is still pretty good among the Japanese. She writes her own lyrics, which, despite being pretty awful, is respectable among Japanese singers (since most do not). She's also a pretty good concert presence... but she's got to retire, and hopefully soon -- her voice is getting worse.

Yes she is not a very good singer. Keiko in Globe sings better. Jun shibata sings much better than most jpop female singers

That is a good news for her in Japan's 2010 economic situation. Depression and other constraints have driven people to something imaginary. "Love songs" can produce love for true couples who can drive Japan forward. "Dream on" can pour something realistic on Japanese generations to boost Japan's economy and other perspectives of life. Congratulation. If a wealthy can share a little to poor. everything is peaceful. Her success produces money, but the sharing formula is determined by her agent manager and investors.
