A bit precious, aren't we? I have mixed feelings about Ayumi. Sometimes I like her, other times she drives me nuts. I think she's talented as a songwriter though. I love Jewel at the moment.

Do her bodyguards go up to fans and snap their phones in half or something?

She doesn't write her own songs just sings them.

She's credited as the songwriter.

Koda Kumi's also credited as being a "singer". Doesn't mean she is by any accounts.

We're talking about songwriting, not singing. And Koda Kumi is still a singer, regardless of whether her voice is good or bad.

I don't mean to burst your bubble, she doesn't write them. I've worked directly with her management team for years, she is only credited for them because avex owns her name and collects all her publishing, recording and other rights. She is paid a flat salary as a performer. At most she has input into the songs.

ayu wrote every of her lyrics, isn't it?

Sure you have. Not saying her not writing her own lyrics is outside the realm of possiblity though, I'd be disappointed, but not surprised. I'll still listen to the songs.

oginome: I really don't mind you don't believe me, it is the internet anyway... I know what I know about the music industry..... as for the songwriting what you don't know can't hurt you :)
avex was quite a bully 5-6 years ago, they would force artists to sign things, put pressure on other smaller labels to release artists to them or to stop other labels even releasing stuff that might complete with avex... I had to sign a contract once with avex's publishers saying I would not publicly admit an artist I debuted was now an avex artist as they wanted to debut her for a song. It wasn't a big deal to sign it but just shows how protective they are about their marketing.

"Two years" and "rare" huh? What,... she thinks she's some kind of hermit? Shows you how much she appreciates her fans.

Hmm, just for the sake of doing so, I want to clear up some things said here.
Yeah, Ayu had her teeth fixed, but it was back in 2005 between releases. At some point during her month or so long stay in Hawaii, she had some cosmetic dental work done and got veneers. I don't believe she's had them redone since then since they look the same as they did six years ago.
The last time she appeared in public like this (not in transit to a concert or on the way to a shoot) was in 2008 for the promotion of a photobook she had released. However, I believe that didn't go as planned since thousands of people showed up and clogged streets in Japan which is probably why they avoid doing that nowadays. This meetup that she attended was restricted to TeamAyu members only and was decided upon via lottery, I think?
About the photos taken of her, I am pretty sure they're exaggerating. I know many people who have met Ayu when she was in LA at Record Plant and L'ermitage or when she was in Europe and they were free to snap photos as they wished. I guess it was probably surprising that since it was a private event that they would allow everyone to use their digital cameras?
As much as people would like to believe that Ayu is disconnected from her fans or unappreciative of them, the situation right now is anything but. She interacts with some fans on a first name basis via Twitter and is rather gracious during any fan encounters. People meet her at train stations (in Japan) or airports and she interacts with them normally. I believe that she knows she's where is today thanks to the fans and her staff and that is where a lot of her 'love' goes. (second to her husband anyway)
gogogo, it's probably not very smart to lie on the Internet. I'm sorry, but your claims of Ayu 'not being a songwriter' despite having written lyrics for all 170+ of her songs and melodies/compositions for a large handful of those tracks as well (sometimes assisted by Dai Nagao). It's clearly obvious from the way she speaks in blog entries and Twitter that she is in fact the lyricist behind all of her tracks and even if it's a bit sketchy sometimes with her compositions including the collaborations, I give her the benefit of the doubt. I don't like Utada Hikaru at all, but I know she writes all of her stuff and am not going to try to lie to people and say that she doesn't, because that's just ignorant.
I understand why people might think Ayu is 'manufactured' or 'fake', she really is anything but. So before you say that 'it's not her on Twitter' or 'she's not actually posting those blog entries, it's an intern', you should actually see for yourself instead of assuming otherwise.
And about working with that artist and that contract you signed... if it's not a big deal, why did you even mention it? Correct me if I'm wrong, isn't it normal to sign a contract in those circumstances?

dontlookback: It's cool you don't believe me, it's the internet, I know what I know about inside the industry, it's information I've learnt about over the years and I can't point you to a website or a pile or photos or anything will instantly prove me right or wrong.... take everything with a grain of salt on the net.... I know the exact story of Ayu and how she came to Tokyo to become a star with avex.
