Ayumi Hamasaki marries UCLA med student

Pop singer Ayumi Hamasaki, 35, has married a 25-year-old medical student at the University of California in Los Angeles, according to an announcement on her official fan club site TeamAyu.

According to her agency, the couple already finished their marriage procedures in the United States near the end of February. Japanese media reported Tuesday that Hamasaki's mother submitted the marriage registration papers in Japan.

Hamasaki updated her blog with the words “Just married☆” and wrote, “Today is the beginning of my married life.”

The couple announced their engagement in December. They met in January 2013 while Hamasaki was in LA on vacation.

It is Hamasaki's second marriage. She was married to Austrian actor Manuel Schwarz in Las Vegas on New Year’s Day of 2011, but filed for a divorce after a year of marriage. At the time, she said she felt uneasy being away from Japan in the aftermath of the March 11, 2011 disaster.

Hamasaki has just finished filming a video for her single, " Feel the love/ Merry-go-round." She was last in Tokyo with her then-fiance in late December when she appeared on NHK's "Kohaku Uta Gassen" on New Year's Eve.

This is just to get her back in the spotlight, she faded a long time ago. We'll just have to wait 1 year to see if it worked out. But me thinks she will hold on to him to get babies.

Like if it means anything.

Best of luck. Big age difference, but hope it works this time.

10 ( +18 / -8 )

I give it 12 months, tops.

So, she left the first husband because she felt uneasy about being away from Japan in a time of great hardship...I wonder how the divorce helped Japan? I wonder if the husband wouldn't have understood if she had to return home for a bit.....

-9 ( +9 / -18 )

She certainly likes young gaijin ****.

How long do you give this? I'm betting less than a year for 500yen. Any takers?

Readers, please refrain from posting rubbish like this. Show some class and wish them well.

At least the guy won't have to worry about med school debt.

Few sore losers detected!

I don't see what the big deal is, i'm dating a seriu I'm 26 she's 34.(can't use any names) You people don't get it. By the way a seriu is a voice actress.

-5 ( +9 / -14 )

Eh? We can only comment to wish them well? surely it is of note to speculate on why there has been a few of these types of relationship in the news involving J pop stars lately...... a trend worth discussing. and speculation on whether it might last also seems apposite. Really mod, you are getting very strict.

Moderator: There is no reason to badmouth Ms Hamasaki. We had enough of that drivel on the Hikaru Utada thread. Please show some class.

Good for Her. Best of luck.

Some people really find it hard to be happy for others. Good luck to her, as long as they're happy who cares what others think?

Lucky medical student!

10 ( +12 / -2 )

I hope Ayu and her husband all the best.

-12 ( +8 / -20 )

Im happy for her. I give my best wishes to them both. Ayumi has always been a great singer to me.

15 ( +18 / -3 )

omgosh, my favorite singer in the entire universe. :) I'm not gonna say anything negative obviously. I hope she is happy(which I'm sure she is) Been listening to her since before junior high, I hope she does well.

16 ( +18 / -2 )

My guess is she's going to use the 'I couldn't bear to leave Japan' excuse for her upcoming divorce. My only question is who is going to go first again, Hamasaki or Utada.

Ayumi has always been a great singer to me.

I see Hamasaki isn't the only one with ear problems.

She looks young and cute. UCLA Med School is expensive to attend but it produces successfuk doctors in Southern Calif. She is a singer so best location she will live. Who knows? She may be a Hollywood singer some day. Also she can enjoy beaches, Disneyland, maybe Dodgers and Angels games there. Good luck and I have no doubt she will enjoy there. Congratulation !

I like her, I wish her the best, and I hope she will have long lasting marriage.

UCLA Med School is not expensive, relatively speaking. It is a State school. No sure if this is a picture of the guy but... http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2014-03-03/singer-ayumi-hamasaki-weds-ucla-medical-student

At least she did not marry .. a girl.

Congrats on your marriage! May you continue gifting the world with your amazing vocal talent!! Yipppe for Ayumi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

UCLA is not Cal State Univ system. One of my children attended there. I was hoping she attends CSU fullerton where you paid $5 registration fee and no tuition a semester, I had to pay tuition. That was in early 1970's. After Arnold became governor, it became expensive. Fortunately, my parents in Japan paid after 1 semester and so she did not have to go Hollywood to get an extra type jobs but her classmates had that kind of jobs. I don;t think UCLA suddenly became cheap. .Anyway, hope she will move to So. Calif.

In what language?

Hamasaki updated her blog with the words “Just married☆” and wrote, “Today is the beginning of my married life.”

I hope she found something better to do with the rest of her day.

At the time, she said she felt uneasy being away from Japan in the aftermath of the March 11, 2011 disaster.

People get divorced all the time, but I just have such a hard time with her using the disaster as a reason for her divorce. It would have been so much better if she just said straight out that she longer wanted to be married to him.

Anyway, here is wishing better luck this time around.

lucky doge. even if it doesn't work out, he still gets a helluva ride in the meantime and an MD from a leading university to fall back on. wonder if he can offer advice on how to attract rich and famous pop stars. would help cause i always forget my wallet, so a date like ayu would be a big plus

If she married in California and if the marriage does not work out after a year she better head to japan and get a divorce because California is a 50/50 state. I hope she has prenups and her money stashed in Jp because if she come here and decides to divorce the med student get half of the assets at the time of the marriage.

She just married and you are already advising where to divorce !

@ Toshiko

First of all i don't think you know much about California. About her divorce last time she married in Las Vegas if you know ANYTHING about the US the laws vary from state to state unlike Japan. California is a 50/50 state no matter what you have you split it should you divorce. Her last marriage was not registered in Japan so it was easy to get out of in Las Vegas don't try that in California it won't work. LMAO you wrote who knows maybe she would be a hollywood singer. I know and for that fact that talent won't make american idol thats demo music here that she sings it won't get played on an Am Radio station.

Damn shame. Waste of talent! we didn't get a chance to cross path Ayumi. We are about the same age!! Anyways, wish you best of luck and happiness. May your relationship break barriers and be an inspiration to change all that is screwed up in your country now.

I dated a man 11 years younger than myself for a number of years. He wanted to marry me but the feeling was not mutual. The age difference is not a big deal. However, if the med student is only 25, he still has many years of medical training ahead. After med school there is the internship and then residency, which can take many years. I know, my dad is a doctor. I remember watching him lug his microscope around when he was studying for his sub-specialty boards. The residency period is especially trying, usually involving extensive sleep deprivation. When I worked at the Mayo Clinic, I remember watching doctors come in and get milk out of the vending machines in the break room and just suck down three or four cartons to sustain themselves before their next shift. Sometimes doctors would sleep on the couch in the break room or on a patient examining table in an unoccupied exam room.

There are many, many Japanese in southern California so I'm sure the pop star won't be lonely. My mail man is one. One day I got a package from Japan and he rang my doorbell to present it to me. He was very excited! Perhaps more so than me, and it was my package! As a completely non-Japanese person, I find southern California to be a veritable wonderland of Japanese stuff - there are Japanese magazines at the grocery store, Japanese bookstores, Japanese festivals here and there, plenty of Japanese restaurants (maybe not great restaurants but they do exist in great quantities). There is even an entire little Japanese shopping mall area in Orange County near Disneyland. It has a bookstore, a Japanese grocery store, restaurants, fast food, etc. Even at the regular mall there is a Japanese store where I can buy green tea Kit Kats and just about any Hello Kitty thing I could want.

I wish the couple every happiness!

Japanese females live longer than American males. Marrying a younger American man will work better in a long run.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I don't care who she marries or how long she stays married. I love you, Ayu! I hope this marriage is a happy I've and it lasts exactly as long as You want it to. Hell, I'd marry you if I could.

Long live the queen of pop.
