Becky and Ryuta Sato win Best Smile of the Year awards

TOKYO —

TV personality Becky, 25, and actor Ryuta Sato, 29, were named as having the “Best Smile of the Year 2009” by the Japan Dental Association during a ceremony on Sunday which was “Good Teeth Day.”

When Sato heard of his win, he joked, “Since I entered the celeb world, I’ve always wanted to win a “Something of the Year” award, so I’m really happy.” Becky was happy to hear that the prize for the award was a trip to Korea, exclaiming happily, “I’m so interested in Korea right now. I’m going to go buy tons of Korean goodies!”

The pair, who have worked together before, complimented one another, with Becky saying how happy she was to win the award together with “Ryuta-kun.” “He’s got such a powerful and bright smile.”

Sato, too, sung the praises of his co-winner, saying, “Becky is really perfect; she’s someone I look up to.”

“He’s got such a powerful and bright smile.”

I agree. He can make us happy with his nice smile.

This is so silly. So what are the next categories, Best dimple? Best receding hairline?

    Jizzeez

Doesn't she have a surname? Or would that be too foreign?

    Becky...sometimes yes!!! Sometimes No...I can't decide

I like Becky. Sato, however, I could do without. Rookies was bad enough, but he made it worse.

Well we know Becky will win the "largest forehead of the year" award, when that one is inevitably handed out. She has often times tried hiding this with very long bangs, but not in this pic.

best smilist. Its good that "talents" with good teeth are praised, since the average supermodel here has crooked teeth... Here they get a nose or boob job before even considering putting on some braces.

Best Smilist, finally!! My money was on Becky!

    Nice suit there on Sato...

That hairdo on Becky is not very flattering.

    Best smile, worst face :)

She looks like a salad with a big nose.

He looks like the parquet floor of the Fleet Center (a.k.a. The Boston Garden). Basketball fans, you know what I'm talking about.

Still, this country (and world) could use a few more smiley faces.

There's a Japan Dental Association? Best Teeth Day? Would be a lot of fun doing research for this award.

    Tommygun

Becky, most annoying person who says Kawaii more than anyone else on TV.

That suit he's wearing looks like my mom's kitchen floor back in 1972.

All this awards are starting to sound like back in elementary school when EVERYBODY won something so nobody would feel left out.

    Weasel

Surprised they didn't win the the smileist or teethist award.

I really like Ryuta Sato. And for once in my life I feel this "bestist" award is fitting. He does have a pretty signature smile. I really enjoy him as an actor.

I wouldnt use "Best smile" for characters who smile "too frequently"! Whatever they hear, they smile at you; lesson learned!

I'm sure Sato's a really nice guy, but his acting make me want to punch him in the face. Rookies, Konkatsu, the Sharp ads - he's responsible for several crimes against television.

pretty sure he wins for 'worst suitist', whoever he is

Next award for those left-over celebs who didn't win anything else: Best Something of the Year award!

Best hair was won just a couple of months ago and now the teeth by this person. Next what? Seems like someone's spending quite a bit of money to make her popular.

As for Sato, his smile sure is nice.( I am refraining from abusing the word 'cute'.)

    terebiko

Good for Becky. She's probably one of the hardest working talents out there. Wonder if she is worried about the youtube sensation Becky who will soon make her debut in Japan. Her dance videos are real cute, but she can't speak Japanese, so maybe best smilist Becky won't be too worried.

After seeing Ryuta's suit, suddenly I want to play chess...

I hate Becky, she is stupid and I just cannot buy that she is such a ' good girl'

Best smilists... or best clownists ?

have to say good on you becky. in this land of many talentless [or pointless] talents, its nice to see one who is interesting. im not a fan of japanese variety shows, unless becky is on it. lol, not a fanboy, but at least her documentaries are interesting. she does more than just sit there nodding her head at the camera. yeah, nice smile too :o) no idea who the bloke is though.

I for one would be very happy to volunteer for a night out with Becky-chan to see if she is a naughty girl.....

We all know a smile turned upside down is a frown. These kids have been taught to smile on cue as far back as they can rememember and more. Now Yuko Takeuchi, that is one great smile. Yeah, I admit to contradicting my self here. Guilty as charged.

"Ryuta Sato also won 'Best Pixelist' for his suit. After the awarding ceremony, Sato was said to have stood in front of a computer monitor, after which no one knew of his whereabouts."

Neato! What a swell award! Let's all buy more products!

Aww, I'm glad! I love Sato Ryuta; he's got a great sense of humor and wicked comic timing, and he seems like a genuinely nice guy. I always enjoy Becky when she appears on variety shows, too. Congrats!

PS -- Though I agree, Sato's suit is... indescribable. I've noticed this about many Japanese "fashion" suits, though, where the suit jacket and pants are made of the same vividly patterned fabric. I always think it makes the poor guys look like they were dressed by a stylist who upholsters furniture for extra cash.

Yes I agree with you "terebiko" and "jonsnow" that Becky is great and interesting on all the different shows that she appears on. I just wish she would get rid of the "Tomboy" look and dress more fashionably. She's quite pretty with a unique face but I think she would look much better if she actually wore a skirt sometimes or something a bit more figure-hugging.

How shallow. Man this country needs a real hero/role model. I can't believe all the talentless 'talento' get so much damm attention for doing absolutely nothing... Most (not all) of the talento I see on TV wouldn't be there if they didn't either: Talk, walk, dress or act like a freak... They are all just a bunch delusional (i'm special) atention seeking tards IMHO :)

I find Becky insufferable. To me, she comes off as more fake than most, and in a way that specifically grates on me for reasons I can't quite define. I feel compelled to change the channel as soon as she appears on TV.

The bloke I have no feelings about one way or the other.

One of my worst nightmares would be, to be eating out at a resturaunt, and then Becky comes in followed by a camera!!!!

Just like UdaMan, I just have to change the channel whenever Becky is on.
