Becky named Beaujolais goodwill ambassador

TV personality Becky has been appointed by Suntory as its Beaujolais Nouveau goodwill ambassador, tasked with conveying the unique charms of the light, fruity French red wine. The publicity campaign reaches its climax Nov 20, when the new wine officially goes on sale.

The goodwill ambassador was appointed by Georges Duboeuf, a winemaker in the Beaujolais region of eastern France and the leading producer of Beaujolais Nouveau. On the spot to inspect the condition of the grapes, Becky said, “The grapes are sweet and tasty, including the skins. I expect they’ll make delicious wine.”

For three days after the wine goes on sale, Suntory will sponsor a sales event featuring food creator Fumiko Kono, who will prepare dishes that go well with Beaujolais Nouveau.

I like Becky. The shows are stupid but J-TV. But then, the best think on J-TV is anime. The stories are more interesting especially those that are late a night. The live shows are abit sad but some times they have a good one. It is definitely good if you can't fall a sleep.

I would say Becky must be a very rich girl with all the promotions she does, but in this country I'm sure the tarento agency takes a 90% cut

The French themselves have long given up on beaujolais. Beaujolais nouveau is even worse, it's considered something of a joke and is almost entirely aimed at the foreign market. The Georges Duboeuf staff are probably p***ing themselves laughing at the Japanese who drink this.

Why all the Becky hatred? I like her in Shimura’s Zoo.

I like the way this wine is promoted each year. It's called marketing/promotion. There is good Beaujolais and not so good Beaujolais. Everyone can make their own choice. For many years I have enjoyed this wine, marketed by Suntory, with simple French bread and cheese. The best combination.

As to Becky; all you haters, grow up

The advice is futile. The hating and bashing is due to a congenital affliction. And this is one of the few places that serve as an outlet. So ignore it.

Just to correct a few of you, Beaujolais is actually drank every day in France by nearly every restaurant. It actually acts like water for some people. So the ironic thing is that Beaujolais itself is such a crap wine, it is treated as a water replacement over the Evians, Perriers and Badoits, etc.

In fact there is no point comparing so called 'better wines' from Australia or New Zealand. There are so many types of grapes and wine styles in this world, the regional terroir, grape varieties or combos as well as production methods are all part of the game. New Zealand doesn't have better Sauvignon Blanc that France's Loire Valley/Sancerre for example, nor can its New Style over-ripe Pinot Noirs compare to Burgundy, or say an Italian Barbaresco. Yet all have their own styles. I'm sure a Bordeaux is pretty dissimilar to an Australian Cab Sauv, as much as a French Syrah is different to an Australian Shiraz.

However France produces some wines like Grenache or Beaujolais that other places don't drink. If you don't like it fair enough! Don't spread false information around however.

Beaujolais is a rather refreshing watery wine, it contains many different grades. Although the Nouveau harvest ones are a bit of a marketing rip-off, that I agree, since its the weakest grade...

**I bet you no-one in France drinks it **

You've lost. There are so many foreign tourists buying that.

Duboeuf is a crook, he was caught selling a mix of unknown wines as beaujo nouveau. I usually get some as omiyage or seasonal present. The last 10 years, it was drinkable twice, and 8 times, not good enough for a calimucho.

dishes that go well with Beaujolais Nouveau.

    Aojiru.

Real aged Beaujolais, with snails : That's paradise.

About Miss Becky... She doesn't bother me. Well, becky, bequille is the French for crutch, and cruche the French word I'd use to describe her style. Why is she cosplayed like the Russian version of Heidi ? Why didn't they put her a Marie-Antoinette-chan Takarazuka costume ? She'd be much cuter in pink.

Personally, I try to stay away from wines I find in the local convenience store as the employees don't treat it with the proper 'respect' it deserves; they just ring it up on their cash registers as if it were Calpis or something.

    Excuse me? What pis?

Have always got time for Becky. She seems marginally more sane and likeable than the rest of the drivel that the tarento circuit is comprised of.

I've got no idea what Becky is like in her private life, but as many times already she is very much, the light relief on our daily screens. On the other hand, wine has always had that sophiscated feel about it (unless you and your mates are just drinking cheap plonk at a bbq). In my mind I just can't reconcile the two ... Becky and sophisticated image of wine, kind of makes me giggle.

“The grapes are sweet and tasty, including the skins"

If there was ever a glowing endorsement for a wine.... that wasn't it.

  • Nessie at 06:23 PM JST - 22nd September

Loki, LOL. Nice to see you around again.

  • timtak at 06:29 PM JST - 22nd September

I am surprised that the French chose a part English lady to represent their wine. Are there no part-French tarento? Erika Sawajiri?

  • jmarc at 07:28 PM JST - 22nd September

well beaujolais nouveau is a cheap wine in France.. On lauching date it is fun to meet friends and taste the wine. We allways find it worse than last year, then after a few glasses we find it better.. probably because we are to drunk to fell it anymore :)

Wine need time to improve anyway, so beaujolais nouveau is that a fresh new wine, you can't expect much of it.

  • DenshaDeGO at 07:55 AM JST - 23rd September

    BTW, can Becky speak English?

    No, her English is awful.
