'Best Jeanists' announced

TOKYO —

The Japan Jeans Association on Monday announced this year’s Best Jeanists, selecting singer Kumi Koda, 25, KAT-TUN member Kazuya Kamenashi, 22, and three other winners. Beijing Olympic fencing silver medalist Yuki Ota, 22, also won a Best Jeanist award in the association’s special section. Koda (for best overalls) and Kamenashi won the award for the third successive year.

Asked about his selection, Ota said, “Up until now, I never thought the award had anything to do with my life. I feel like it’s not right for me to be here today. Although I usually wear a sweatsuit, I will try jeans more often.” Kamenashi said of Ota: “I would like him to teach me fencing and we can talk about jeans together.” Koda added that she would like to coordinate clothes for Ota.

Other recipients were model-actress Anne, 22, who is the daughter of actor Ken Watanabe, fashion designer Hiroko Koshino, 71, and South Korean actor So Ji Sub, 30.

The event is part of Tokyo Fashion Week which kicked off on Monday and runs through Sunday.

    Looking good.

I don't think the awards exist as such, just they automatically give them to celebs so that the the media/weekly magazines will run the stories creating exposure for the product in question. A cynical marketing joke.

best jeanists? poppycock! where are the best g-stringists? but really these marketing types couldn't be anymore absurd. I agree with Bill Hicks on this one.

It's nice to have high goals in life, isn't it?

  • bebert at 03:16 PM JST - 2nd September

Silly idea, but it does show off the fact that Japanese girls have the most slender and delicate look. I'll leave it at that.

Now if she would ditch the t-shirt I would think she was a 10. now only a 9.5 :>

Kumi Koda is a nice jeanist. I'm sure I could squeeze into those jeans with her. We could be best jeanist couple. OR most jeanists in one pair. Or co-ed jeanists or some other dumb title.

There probably is a best g-string or best bikini award (there's a best everything mundane in this country right!), but likely to be not the material that Japan Today would print...would it ed?

Looking at Kumi Kodas legs makes my knees hurt. My toddler has overhauls like hers. Makes it easy to change the diaper.

  • happyface at 10:46 AM JST - 3rd September

What blows my mind is that there's actually a Japan Jeans Association. So, weekly meetings after roll call they talk about, what...jeans. Or planning their hostile take-over of the Japan Synthetics Association.

    my sentiments exactly. hahahha.

  • IchyaParadise at 02:23 PM JST - 3rd September

I wonder how much these people get paid though...Jeans association. Maybe I should create an association for no good acting and talent and award these people and I can make money that way. Damn...they already do that in Japan.

If there's anything that is a slap in the face to this esteemed award it is this. :(

I see a disqualification in the offing...
