But of course. Naturally. As opposed to, say, a song about the obscenity of gangs, gang violence and the celebration of gangster-inspired music. Which has a far greater negative impact on communities.

she is set to perform before tens of millions of television viewers during halftime of the Super Bowl alongside British rockers Coldplay.

She just performed SB half-time show. Good performance along with B. Mars.

Set in New Orleans, the video offers fleeting but poignant references to Black Lives Matter, the movement against police brutality that has gained steam across the United States in recent years.

The (teenage) Micheal Brown incident sparked this whole mess, but the officer (D. Wilson) was justified for the shooting because the Black teen assaulted Wilson and went for his gun.

Why isn't anyone hootin' & hollering about all the "violence" target at police officers in the gangster rap music scene?

Poor innocent black men being killed by the nasty police....give me a break.

Good on her, and the message she promotes. I saw a vid on the young turks about an African American man being pulled over and mistaken identity for another guy who had a warrant, was latter beat bloody and then the officers charged him with getting blood on their uniform, because they couldnt charge him with anything else. Even if the story is exaggerated, somebody needs to be held accountable. Its out of control. The rise of herion use and other nonsense does not justify police brutality. Its insane because they can beat him, not be charged, then charge him for "touching" them with his blood, that they are the cause of.

Yeah how dare she take on only one issue and not all of them at once.

Yeah how dare she take on only one issue and not all of them at once.

Well, except for the fact that this is the "in" theme and helps her "street" cred or some such. As opposed to shining a light on the issue that is really responsible for the majority of inner city murders. But, no one likes to talk about that... particularly when one can focus on the horrible cops.

Seriously, its a complete pander. And particularly offensive when she benefited from, hey, guess what, police protection, at the Super Bowl. And elsewhere that she goes.

Oh, and I liked the Malcolm X stuff at the half time show. Nice classy touch.

the issue that is really responsible for the majority of inner city murders

And that is?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

And that is?

Well, some call it black-on-black murders. I am sure there is a politically correct term for it. Whatever the term is, it is civilians killing other civilians. Meaning it has nothing to do with cops.

In terms of the causes of this black-on-black deaths, the causes are largely attributed to gang violence, drugs (often linked to gangs), and the settling of personal disputes.

Obviously many argue that this is just the symptom, that the underlying causes are poverty, lack of opportunity, and the availability of guns, among other reasons.

There is certainly much here to debate, but my point is that police brutality and blacks being killed wrongfully by cops, while it does happen, is not the major challenge facing these communities.

Bruno Mars blew her away! Coldplay front man horrible. That wont happen again.

Well, except for the fact that this is the "in" theme and helps her "street" cred or some such.

Yeah, because it's not like she could actually care about this issue.

my point is that police brutality and blacks being killed wrongfully by cops, while it does happen, is not the major challenge facing these communities.

You aren't the one who gets to decide the major issue facing these communities.

And to discount the fear of being killed by the police, the very people who are supposed to protect, the very people whom you're supposed to feel safe around, whom you're supposed to report bad issues, is ignoring just how big a psychological issue that is.

@Strangerland,

Yeah, because it's not like she could actually care about this issue.

Of course she might. Sort of like how Di Caprio cares about climate change while flying around on private jets and sailing on huge yachts. Seriously, snark aside, this is a calculated move. I am not saying she doesn't care, but it just strikes me as very opportunistic. But, that's fine. People do it all of the time.

You aren't the one who gets to decide the major issue facing these communities.

Actually, those outside the community do get a say. When a community decides to go external with its complaints and views, demanding actions with respect to police and policing, things that impact all communities and all citizens, then those outside that community have every right to question what is being said and the facts behind the situation. I can't "decide" anything, but I am certainly entitled to have an opinion. Which is what I expressed.

And to discount the fear of being killed by the police, the very people who are supposed to protect, the very people whom you're supposed to feel safe around, whom you're supposed to report bad issues, is ignoring just how big a psychological issue that is.

And I understand this. But this is not solved by making the police the "enemy". Unfortunately, that is what happens all too often. Prejudices? Sure. Injustices? Absolutely. I didn't discount any of that.

All I was trying to point out is that I would love to see Beyonce apply her star power to something like the gang culture and its impact on the community, for example. For example, its a little old school, but "Waterfalls" by TLC was actually a really powerful song that did something like this.

Anyway, its her music and her stardom, of course. I was just expressing my view.

Seriously, snark aside, this is a calculated move. I am not saying she doesn't care, but it just strikes me as very opportunistic.

I agree with you based on the absolutely nothing whatsoever to show that to be the case.

You aren't the one who gets to decide the major issue facing these communities.

Actually, those outside the community do get a say.

No, they don't get a say into what is important to that community. Or at the very least, they don't get to tell that community that something that is important to them, isn't.

this is not solved by making the police the "enemy".

To many black people, many police have made themselves the enemy. The people are not supposed to be afraid of the police, they are supposed to look up to the police as their heroes and defenders.

Anyways, it's stupid to think that pointing out a behavior as needing fixing is making the police the enemy. That's the same logic that Japan right-wingers use when calling those who criticize whaling or WWII denials 'Japan haters' or 'anti-Japan'. Criticizing a behavior is not the same as criticizing the entire group overall.

All I was trying to point out is that I would love to see Beyonce apply her star power to something like the gang culture and its impact on the community

Fair enough - it would be nice to see that too. But that wasn't the issue she decided to focus on this time, which is her right. We each have the right to pick and choose the battles we want.

@Strangerland,

I will leave it alone, except to say that when she decides to perform that song at the Super Bowl, I just think it is the wrong venue. Given what the Super Bowl is. But, that is actually the NFL's problem, not hers.

Cashing in, and in poor taste.

Have a proper perspective; America is a huge country with 380 million people with legal gun ownership as well as tens of millions of illegal guns floating around. With black families about having lower levels of higher education, higher level of crime rates among the races it is quite inevitable there will be yearly recurring cases of black youths as well as black criminals being busted. It's just plain mathematics. Pity the policemen regardless of whether they are Whites or Blacks or Hispanics; really tough for your own safety. Of course there are also cases of abuse of authority by policemen. Again plain mathematics in a huge country.

No need to blow cases as gross injustice. America has offered great opportunities to its immigrants (citizens) regardless of races if they are hardworking, law abiding, diligent and entrepreneurial.
