TOKYO —

The latest installment of Nissin Foods’ Cup Noodles commercials, in which famous artists parody their lyrics to sing about the budget noodles, started airing on TV this week, and features footage of Bon Jovi performing “You Give Love a Bad Name” at London’s Wembley Stadium in 1995.

The fourth installment of Cup Noodles commercials this year comes after R&B singer MISIA’s “Everything,” British funk band Jamiroquai’s “Virtual Insanity” and power pop group GLAY’s “HOWEVER” featured in the first three.

In the latest commercial, the original lyrics of “Shot through the heart, And you’re too blame, You give love a bad name, I play my part and you play your game, You give love a bad name, You give love…a bad name,” have been changed to “Musukosan, wa Chu san de, Juken benkyo shiteta, Yashoku no kappu nudoru, Okasan ga wasureta, Musokosan wa…suneta.” The new lyrics tell the story of a third year junior high school boy studying for his exams, and his mother forgetting his late night cup noodles, leading the boy to sulk.

The 15 and 30-second versions of the commercial can also be seen at the products’ web site: http://www.cupnoodle.jp/cm/index.html.

Bon Jovi released their latest “best of” album “Bon Jovi GREATEST HITS” last week, and will play at Tokyo Dome on Nov 30 and Dec 1.

Anyone remember the old "Hungry?" cup noodle commercials, with the cavemen chasing the dinosaurs? They were hilarious in their time.

So is Jon really singing in Japanese or are they just dubbing the words over the 1995 concert video? (Gee, I guess I just answered my own question?)

    Just add hot water...

Enough with this MISIA, R and B singer... She's J-Pop with a beat. I realize the record company has deemed her "R and B", but "Just because a record's got a groove don't make it in the groove"

Ruth Brown, Junior Walker and the All Stars, Etta James, Aretha Franklin, The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, Ko Ko Taylor, Solomon Burke, Otis Redding, that's Rhythm and Blues...

    Just add hot water...

The Japanese sure know how to make tacky commercials to appeal to their childish sense of humor.

Changing the words to a song. Wow. Are they going to get Simon Le Bon to pull a face while Ozzy Osbourne slaps him on the back of the head next?

Mothers here are way more servile to their sons than in the West. He is quite right to sulk about lack of noodle. And don't knock BJ - seems a harmless way to make a pile of money.
