I like these guys. It's really nice to find artists who are happy to have no boundaries or borders. And their bilingual ability impresses me. It's also quite nice how the Japanese recording industry have taken them on board. Only an idiot would attempt to rubbish what they are doing.

How very quaint! I hope none of my Canadian tax $ went toward this.

thepro: Maynard came here to teach English on JET originally, then spent a tough number of years getting the band going. His brother came over to help with that and soon after they came out with 'Around the World'.

If they're so good, I'd like to see them try and get anywhere in Canada. That brand of gooey beach drivel might work on the early 20s OLs but back home, it's gonna get you laughed at. He was a JET. Case closed. Wait a second, "Maynard and Blaise"? Alright, I'll stop now.

shows how little you know they sold out venues in your country. Jealousy is unbecoming.

"Goodwill envoy".. wtf is that? Goodwill between Canada and Japan? Two pacifist, socialist countries need goodwill sown between them?

  • taj at 07:14 PM JST - 22nd June

Even more than the usual dose of whinging on the JT comment board today. What is it? The rainy weather? Monday?

I hadn't heard of Monkey Majik. Just checking them out on YouTube and so far, impressed with "Change".

What the WHAT??? Sorry, chappy, but nobody in Canada has heard of these two hillbillies outside their circle of friends. Selling out the Sarnia Community Centre on Safegrad night does not a rockstar make. Long may the hatemongering last toward Funkytragic!

They are unheard of both in the US & Canada because they are foremost a Japanese Band, even though Maynard & Blaise are from Canada. Since they promote themselves as a Japanese Band, they sing, perform, record and even live in Japan, so why would anywone think they would be popular in Canada? Ofcourse not. I believe last year was the first time they even performed in their own country in Vancouver & Ottawa, and from what I heard, both venues were soldout! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but from what I've heard and seen so far, they are a talented bunch of songwriters and lyricist, incorporating Japanese/English/French language in their music.

Informed: intr.v. Chiefly British., whinged, whing·ing, whing·es. To complain or protest, especially in an annoying or persistent manner.

Believe me, I was straining to find a more accurate term, while avoiding being moderated. I don't think " chronic dickheadedness" passes muster.

At any rate, selling out Zaphod's in Ottawa is pretty cool, but it's not exactly a stadim. (I fondly remember the days when the mostly unknown Bare Naked Ladies played there, but that was in the old, smaller venue.)

The Ottawa Citizen referred to the Monkeys playing to a crowd of 40,000 in Seoul, if I remember correctly, now a week later.
