Casey Kasem is to radio what Dick Clark has been to television. R.I.P.

He wasn't always gentle - some greatouttakes of him losing it on youTube. Still i guess the old faces are passing on one by one.

Casey was the greatest! I used to listen to his Top 40 show! And a great voice actor!

I loved his Shaggy! "Scooby, old pal, old buddy, ol' Scoob!" etc.

We'll all miss 'im!

Congrats Casey on a successful life! I used to listen to his show too back in the mid to late 70's

Did he have a show on the US military radio station (FEN) in the late 80s or early 90s? I used to listen to FEN when I was a kid (means to learn English) and I seem to remember the name.

In the 50s when he was in the US Army.

He definitely had a show in the mid 80's on FEN. Used to listen to FEN quite often in those days. Still have a tape somehere of the show when Karma Chameleon by Culture Club was Number One!

I realize that instead of "did he have a show" I should have said "was his program broadcast on the US military radio station". I remember Wolfman Jack well, but I'm also pretty sure I remember Casey Kasem too. Oh yes, I also enjoyed the music, besides trying to learn English.

I pretty much "Top 40" radio for what was called "underground" in the mid-to-late 1960s. Still, I recall myself being hooked on Kasem's style when driving and landing on his program during channel surfing. He was really good. I'd also hear him on FEN when in Japan, and wondered how many Japanese were listening too.

In a 1997 visit with high school students in Dearborn, Michigan., home to a large Arab-American community, he was asked why he changed his name to Casey.

I was born in Detroit and raised in Dearborn. It's probably Fordson High School that he visited - my alma mater -- and now has a student body that is better than 75% Arab-American. When I attended, it was probably 30-40 percent. Glad to know he never forgot his roots.

RIP, Mr. Kasem. Your work here was enjoyed by many.

FEN... brings back memories of the 80's when things were still vinyl and Tower records began to boom in Japan. RIP Casey, I certainly enjoyed listening to your show every Saturday back then.
