China box office revenue hits $3.6 bil in 2013; 3 Hollywood films in top 10

It is much better if China stops pirating movies. China alone is the world's leader in piracy with millions of pirated dvds, cds and blurays shipped across southeast asia.

“Neither the quality of Chinese films or the quantity of fine (domestic) movies improved in proportion to the leap in box office revenue,” the Beijing Youth Daily said in a commentary on Tuesday.

Quantity over quality. That's China in a nutshell.

You think Hollywood makes quality films and motion pictures all the time? 80% of the films are crap and junks. 10% of them are just manipulative for certain genre. Only about 10% are true gems. The only reason the world doesn't notice is they never get a chance to make it abroad. SO to the rest of the world, all these hollywood films look amazing and awesome.

And this has been done through trial and error for close to a century. There is no way anyone else, let alone China can overtake quality from Hollywood with such short period.

But if you look at some of the Chinese films these days, they have gone away from the flying kungfu crap. So they are beginning to diversify in film, arts, and generate a more diverse topic in social and humanity settings.

Frankly speaking, I'm much more disappointed with Japanese film industry. Its just so blase and unspectacular filled with all the social cliche. With so much capital involved, you would think the Japanese film industry can step out of its own cocoon.

problem being,,, Hollywood is said to be self censoring itself as to be able to be shown in China. lol Again there is the China self censoring taking place even in the US . Money talks and CHina knows that, that is why they can take advantage of so many issues when there is money involved , such as sharing technology to do business in CHina by foreign companies.. and these companies will sell themselves out for that cash!
