If they really want to be more serious (and honest) , they should have PLA soldiers splitting Kuomintang soldiers in half with their hands, after the Kuomintang struggle to kill the Japanese solders.

These movies only make the peace idea a dream.

Ah yes, re-education has always been a guiding principle of China's one-party rule. No chance of "Tiananmen: the Musical" anytime soon then.

Good one! Dramas are like religions... plain brainwashing!!!!!

In 2002, Beijing pulled the plug on the Taiwan-made soap opera “Meteor Garden”, fearing that the decadent lifestyle portrayed by boy band “F4” would corrupt young Chinese minds. China described the series as “electronic heroin”.

I love the line "electronic heroin". I wish other "countries" would follow in their lead and do the same!

Had japan apologized for the atrocities the Chinese are discussing perhaps there would be no need to make up stories about them. Most cultures teach about the atrocities in war against their people. Perhaps China would consider removing the shows if japan unilaterally put the missing atrocities back in their school texts and stopped going to a shrine that promotes the thanking of war criminals?

People shouldnt teach their population about hate. CCP is afraid of its own people. When will it happen? nobody knows but China will have another civil war someday.

But Chinese viewers have taken to social media to complain about the ridiculous plots in the anti-Japan dramas, including one show in which heroic Chinese split Japanese soldiers in half with their hands, something shown in graphic detail.

wtf, sorry but I just have to see this, sounds like an over the top Quentin Tarantino movie.

I've seen some of the WW2 dramas made in China and they would be comical if they weren't so hateful. I remember the fury that erupted over the idiotic, anti-Muslim film 'Rules of Engagement'. That film is thoughtful, fair and balanced compared to this rubbish.

Japan can and has apologized, but that doesn't mean China would stop making up stories. They can make whatever stories they want. There is a thing called fiction, after all. If Chinese people think they are too over the top, they should just stop watching them.

Again it is not apologies that China directly wants but money apologies. Money, money and money talks.

I would like to promote a festival in Japan and other countries showing these hilarious Japan-bashing fantasy films. I've seen one of them recently. I am sure cosmopolitan, educated Chinese would cringe in shame if the rest of the civilized world could see the kind of hate mongering rubbish which is produced in their country in these modern times, and the fact that many of their country men seem to love this kind of vulgar trash which in reality, insults the Chinese themselves, and makes them appear imbecilic to non-Chinese viewers.

This type of exaggeration just gives ammunition to the denialists in Japan. To take the example of Nanking, China has inflated the death toll to a level which most mainstream historians don't accept, leaving the door open for sinister accusations of complete lies rather than exaggerations from the Japanese right. The generally accepted facts are gruesome enough without the need for egregious embellishment. It's both hateful and counterproductive.

If they really want to be serious they should stop manufacturing Anti-Japanese hate machines by hammering too much propaganda into their school children.

@Eric Kalmus Japan has already apologized profusely several times. That's not the problem. The problem is the Han-race!

There used to be a really great Japan-bashing music video on Youtube by a Chinese hip hop artist. The video was well produced, clever, and the level of hate-spewing toward Japan was so exquisite and rich. I would watch it with some of my Western friend and the only impression we were left with was that that the video was actually trying to make Chinese people look like they suffered from a debilitating inferiority complex. I have not been able to find that video on Youtube in the last few years though I've tried many times.

I can only guess that the Chinese government, or other concerned Chinese people, prudently figured out that this constant Japan-bashing does absolutely nothing to harm the image of Japan, but does wonders for making Chinese seem primitive and backwards to Westerners, thus, the video seems to have vanished from the internet. It's a pity I did not have to forethought to record it for posterity.

This is disturbing on so many levels, including the notion that's it "entertainment."

These anti-Japan drama started after the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 promoted by Jiang Zemin to legitimize the ruling of the communist party as leader of mainland china showing communist part and PLA had fought against the IJA to free the people(of course this is purely fiction since the communist party tried to stay away from the IJA is much as possible). This was part of Jiang Zemin propaganda plan to promote patriotism towards the nation focusing hate against Japan as their enemy while denouncing Deng Xiaoping's achievements and democracy as a whole.

Oh please. Japan apologized to China and settled all WWII matters in 1972 with the signing of the Sino-Japanese Treaty of Friendship, which was reaffirmed in 1978. According to CNN, Japan has apologized at least 17 times. We all know that anti-Japan sentiment is a tool used by the Chinese government to keep the people together (and off their backs) with extreme nationalism. A practice which is now threatening peace in the region as it dovetails with the PLA's aspirations of military and territorial expansion.

FizzBitMay. 20, 2013 - 10:50AM JST Did America apologize to Vietnam? Probably not. Doesn't seem to bother them anymore. Oh..and in the meantime >China, how about giving a BIG thank you to the Americans for sweeping the Japanese out. Sorry...and the Brits too

China has already thanked the US and UK for defeating the Japanese in WWII, by killing American and British soldiers on the Korean Penninsula in 1950/51. Bu Xie.

I don't think I've met a single person in six years in China that took these TV shows seriously.

This is actually funny news and many of you are taking it too seriously. Those dramas are so over the top that young viewers in China are making jokes about them online. Have a look at these links which have some footage of those drama: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZP4oxt-XUA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--BN0M4tjME) They are just putting things from "The Matrix" and "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" into a supposed to be serious war drama. Kinda like mixing "The Avengers" into "Saving Private Ryan". Wait, weren't Captain America fighting in WW2 against the Nazis?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Chinese viewers opposed. This means viewers want Movies to be artistic than contents that may make some people copycat and decaptate people's body.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Gawd, Chinese propaganda is ridiculous.
