He's just an actor. The directors and producers should be given this "award".

you should read up on that a bit.

Maybe the Vietnamese Govt will give him a medal too.

@Triple888: you're right - his acting in "Letters from Iwo Jima" was so bad, you barely noticed him.

In case you weren't aware, he directed that and several other very good movies.

Clint Eastwood has directed and produced many excellent movies and even served as Mayor of Palm Springs, CA for a term or two. You need to seriously consult IMDB if you think he's only an actor.

    Fadamor,

not Palm Springs but Carmel. Right state but wrong city.

He loves jazz music which of course was behind his Play Misty for Me thriller/chiller. He is a republican but that is just one strike against him.

Flags didn't go over so well in Japan, but make a ton more money in the US that Letters. In Japan is was the reverse, Letters did extremely well here.

About Gran Torino, which I also loved and watched 4 times on the way to home shores, it seemed to get inside me, and I found myself barking to the newly immegrated newspaper man to kindly "not throw the newspaper in the mud" (as he had just done on his way to "serving the neighborhood" in the vein of Clint's "get off my lawn" when I returned home.

I hope he does another WW 2 movie, this time from the perspective of the Nazis. Would be a great trilogy.

In his early acting career, he was more involved in making western movies, and evolved into detective Dirty Harry, and he won his first Oscar in early '90's for Unforgiven. He has made many movies about personal experience, hardship and world history by looking from other side with deep meaning. His career span almost six decades. Was also a Mayor of Carmel. A very humble man. Thank you Clint.

Anyway, Clint was a good mayor. He gave good service to the town in many ways.

I still think that the movies, if you put them on any list of WWII movies, would both be in the top 10. The Japanese one seems like a pretty honest portrayal that is hard to nit pick. Recently, I evaluate movies according to how much they avoid suckage. The two movies he made could have been really stupid, but hey, they were good. He pulled them together and presented a relevant message. He had nowhere near the resources of SPrivateRyan, for instance, but presented something of that caliber. Great work for a director. Cool competence and clarity. That is certainly worthy of medals in this era of Tim Burton and Seth Rogen.

Oh, and I have to say that the fact that he is a Republican only makes me like him more. Only Nixon can go to China, they used to say, and only someone like Eastwood can make a movie like LETTERS and not get smeared with the Jane Fonda brush.

He should get double medals for putting his conscience out there.

    "Made my day".....

    "Made my day".....

Uhh, 'Make my day' ? Or, you mean, he made your day? Tell us how! That aside, the thread which runs through most of his work, be it actor or director or both, is righteousness. I like that. From a small time cowboy/gunman he evolved into one of the greatest actors and directors in the history of cinema. Congratulations Clint.
