Hahaha, not exactly what nutjob Suey Park meant when she campaigned for #CancelColbert. Good for her, she got what she asked for...

who got into hot water recently over offensive language about Asian Americans

I missed that wee tempest in a teapot. Did see the original redskins / chingdong bit though, which was a good laugh.

Congratulations, Stephen! Will miss being able to freely watch your show via internet.

This will be interesting. When this handover happens, there'd be no more Colbert Report and his Colbert persona.

Who's Stephen Colbert really is without the Stephen Colbert persona? At Late Show, he has to be himself. Would he be as funny without that persona?

Almost definitely. The guy is extremely witty, and a very fast thinker. The persona is only a persona, if he wasn't a funny guy on his own, his persona wouldn't be funny either.

My favourite Colbert moment would have to be his roasting of George Dubya Bush. He hit a raw nerve with first lady Laura who allegedly told him to "get f###ed!". Classic! YouTube it.

As long as I can Internet in Japan the amazing S.C. from where ever he is, I will be pleased. Late night viewers, prepare for a whole new level.

This leaves Jon Stewart with a monopoly on informing America's young about news events.

Sadly CBS isn't available here. I'm really going to miss my nightly dose of Colbert. Because of the Late Night format, I think it's impossible for his new show to be as funny and as clever as the Colbert Report.

“CBS has just declared war on the heartland of America,” he said. “No longer is comedy going to be a covert assault on traditional American values… Now it’s just wide out in the open.”

As usual, Rush DimBulb is way off in right field. Apparently he thinks the character Colbert plays in "The Colbert Report" is a real person. Apparently he ALSO never learned the difference between a comedy show and a talk show.

If that were only true. The problem with Stephan Coheres is, that many young people buy into his schtick and he has a lot of influence and impact of the naive youth thinking that what he says, is factual and hard hitting news. These kids never pick up a paper, read a good book or watch the news, but watching Colbert or Stewart, they think they are getting quality, factual and up to date news coverage?? On that Rush is correct. Look what and how young people can change or screw things up all you have to do is look back on the last 5 years of the country to see the results and the price you pay when you give young people too much power, when they are too young and ignorant about life in their early years.

I've got to admit Stewart and Colbert would be starved of material if it weren't for the clowns at Fox News. "Pappa Bear" &co (together with the Tea Party) have done more to bring down the Republicans on a national level than the Democratics alone could ever hope to do. Given the demographic trends in the US, it is highly unlikely that the GOP will ever again provide a viable Presidential candidate. Their only hope, like the Conservative Party in the UK, is to reinvent itself as a much more moderate middle-of-the-road party.

Comedy shows are the only real news shows in the USA while news continues to unravel and succumb to the right wing horde. Right wingers never got the joke in Colbert and I hope he can find a way to keep that going even if the persona isn't there

The Left has never gotten over the fact that they are no longer a monopoly in the news media. They just will not tolerate other points of view. That said, the replacement of one Lefty with another at CBS just confirms their ability to keep out other viewpoints in the entertainment industry.

Colbert is just not that funny. His humor is based on his viewers wanting to think that the views they hold are superior to those he mocks, especially the lower-class less sophisticated. There is not an iota of self-deprecation. Does anyone really laugh at his "jokes"? I predict CBS will be looking for new host within 2 years.

Great choice! Going to miss Letterman though. The misses is hooked on him and will be heartbroken.

Funny thing is, watching how the Dems are running around like a chicken with its head cut off and the constant lies and BS that are played out on a day to day basis and watching their popularity drop is a comedy all in itself. Don't need to watch Colbert for that. Even to a small point Stewart is getting more and making fun of the idiocy of the Democrats. Buddy, if you think the Republicans need to be more moderate, then the exact same can be said about the Democrats. This time next year and beyond 2016 if they ever want to get elected to anything, they need to come more to the middle and stop pushing their Ueber progressive agendas in peoples faces, otherwise they will be THE toxic party for years to come, also, I don't want to the U.S. to adopt or be anything politically like the UK, remember, there was a reason why our ancestors left the country. If Colbert wants to make it on TV, his Schtick Character will probably have to retire. There is no way, he can get away with that on mainstream TV, he will have to reinvent himself or quickly fall into obscurity....remember what recently happened to Piers Morgan? How did that work out for him?

Hey someone funnier than Letterman, but that ain't so difficult! Unbiased News covering in The US of A really? same stuff different wrapper.

I've always wondered if Stewart has any animosity towards Colbert as he's grown so much bigger than him ?

I, for one, welcome our new Colbert Overlord!

Letterman just didn't make me laugh anymore. I kept comparing him to how fresh his show used to be, but since he made the switch to CBS is was just never that great. Making grunting noises and grabbing his collar can't stack up to the Late Night Monkey Cam.

Colbert is amazing in his interviews. I'm really looking forward to seeing him!
