Comedian Gekidan Hitori.

TOKYO —
Comedian Gekidan Hitori, 31, will serve as a news presenter in the new program “Manaberu!! News!” on the TV Asahi network from October. The program will feature trivia stories related to recent news events.
Gekidan Hitori said, “I am looking forward to the challenge of working on a live news show.” A producer said Gekidan Hitori was chosen for the role because of his talent as a comedian, actor and author.

Ratings, ratings, ratings. Attract the housewives to your station by all means. Who cares about "respectability". We have NHK for that.

I guess Japanese have been watching Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert in the US and have decided that it's time to parody the TV news. The "Wide" shows do it better. I doubt of this thing will go anywhere. Unless Gekidan gets caught coming out of a love hotel with Mona Yamamoto.
