Friday 20th June, 01:38 PM JST
TOKYO —
NTV has talked comedian Harumi Edo into taking part in its 100-km marathon as part of its 24-hour TV charity telethon Aug 30-31. The annual program always features celebrities helping to raise funds.
Edo said she is a keen runner and has been jogging 10 kms every day for the past six years. “I’m happy to give it my best for the telethon.” Edo will be trained by a professional marathon runner for the next two months.

Is this going to be like an eki-den, whereby the runners each run a few kilometers? In that case, 24hours is a bit too long, isn't it?

Anyone who think her brand of comedy is funny is slightly funny themselves. But all of the people who have done this 100km for charity of the years are absolute champions becuase I think they are really gu- people for doing it!! Hopefully she won't pull any of those silly faces she does while runningu!! Gu- luck Harumi!!

An absolute idiot with her "Guuuu" routine ! Good god, when will Japanese demand more from their lame ass entertainment industry ? I hope she trips and busts a hip, the old geezer ! That's "guuuu" !!!!

I'm still hoping for a "gets!" dandy comeback

"I'm still hoping for a "gets!" dandy comeback".
Wouldn't that be the ultimate torture, having to choose between Harumi and Dandy?
Actually, I know that when I die and probably go to Hell, there'll be Edo-san waiting for me, she'll be doing some silly dance along with the silly faces, waving her thumbs around wildly, repeatedly screaming, "Bettin-GU!!!" in my face, followed by a, "Kou-". And doing it for all eternity. I think I better do some penance.

Pukey2,
No. The poor sap has to run the entire 100 km. They tend to start strong and end up hobbling the last few kilometers. The taller one of the Un-chan, Nan-chan duo it one year.
And it's not a marathon. It's an ultra-marathon. Reminds me of the 50 mile walks that were popular during the Kennedy administration. except back then ordinary people were spending 8 to 10 hours in a day walking the distance.

Any normal person would start strong and end up hobbling the last few kilometers of a 100 kilometer ultramarathon.
Actually, most of these owarai talent don't disappear--they go back to doing what they were doing before they showed up on the boob tube: performing in Yoshimoto shows, traveling around the country doing "eigyo" (regional shows at malls and schools), and otherwise working for a living--just not so much in the public eye.

sk4ek, if you've ever watched this show, that is exactly how it ends up, every time, and the everyone ends up in tears as the runner enters the studio. To be honest, even though I support these people for doing this for charity, I wonder what it does for a the athlete's health? Surely it is only a matter of time before someone has a heart attack during one of these marathons.

In a word, "Never".

My Japanese mother-in-law watches this woman and howls in laughter every time Edo does her 'guuu' shtick. Sometimes she's reduced to tears.
Personally, I didn't think it was funny the first time I saw it other than it's making fun of bad English pronunciation, which, when I do it, my wife calls me racist.

Oh she will be pulling silly faces, but it will not be of her own volition after 100kms.
rtrhead1 at 09:52 AM JST - 25th June
She's not Dean Karnazes, so it doesn't seem like a good idea for her. It's a good thing she's running 10km a day though. That'll get her ready. Although, it would be funny to see her crying in the middle, and the end.

Sorry, but I don't buy this. I neither believe that she has been jogging 10km everyday for the past six years, nor do I believe that she completed 100 kilometers. Two months special training for 100K? I laugh my ass off. Let's meet up for some rounds around Imperial Palace. This old hag will go blue in the face and gasp for air in the 3rd round... No guuu...

lameduck.
She did it at the end of last month, it was broadcast on telly.

@TheNewZen
I know that it was on TV although I didn't watch it - too boring and too much 感動BS. I still don't buy it that she completed 100K. Nice PR stunt.
