Comedian's baby daughter dies from unknown causes

TOKYO —
The 23-month-old daughter of Itsuji Itao, 46, from the comedy duo 130R, died suddenly of unknown causes, police said Monday. According to sources, on Sunday evening sometime after 11 p.m., the girl suddenly fell unconscious and was rushed to the hospital, where she died soon after. A hospital spokesman said the cause of death was undetermined.
Itao had attended a movie event earlier that day in Shinjuku.
The girl was Itao’s first child, born on Sept 21, 2007. In his book, “Itao’s Diary 3,” he went on at length about how “Pippi,” as he called her, was growing up. He had bought a video camera to film her before she was born, and commented just after her birth, “She looks just like me!”

It is very weird for a healthy two-year-old to just drop dead like this. Possibly from a blood clot. I'd like to hear a follow up on this. Very tragic thing to have to deal with. Condolences.

Jbizzle: These types of things don't happen everyday. This child was too old to be at risk for SIDS so there has to be something else. Very sad, my daughter is about the same age, I can't imagine how terrible this must be for him.

I don't like this headline, especially as this is such a personal tragedy for the family. There is no need to rush out a headline that states 'dies from unknown causes'. This is one part of Japan Today's gossip-mongering and sensationalism that I despise. The police only made the announcement on Monday, yet Japan Today felt the need to publish their 'unknown causes' headline the next day, which is nowhere near enough time for the Doctors to try and find out what really happened. This headline should be pulled from the site as it is disrespectful to try to generate rumour-mongering.
Moderator: And if the headline had just said "Comedian's baby daughter dies," you and other readers would have been calling for details, wanting to know what she died of. There is nothing disrespectful about the headline. We'll leave it at that.

gosh.. unknown causes.. I agree with Disillusioned that it may be from blood clots.. my grandmother was healthy and she suddenly collapsed then a few hours later she passed. Later the doctor said she had a clotted artery... my condolences, Itsuji Itao...
