Its a tragedy what happened and I hope that man gets the death penalty for his crimes. But why should it effect the performance and safety of the movie? As Warner said it was a one off incident. I fear people are just getting scared for the sake of it.

If you think about it, there is really no place that is safe from people like this. Most people, even criminals, won't go where this guy has gone. They may be out for themselves, but they are not particularly interested in harming the general public unless there is some advantage to be gained. This guy, on the other hand, is living in some fantasy world, not interacting with any real world. You just have to hope that you don't wind up where someone like this winds up, or if you do, that you're close enough to stop him or fast enough to get away.

So anyway, it's Batman... people will go see it. I hope it's a good show at least.

People, people, people...there is real life (Aurora Landmark Theater last night) and The Movie...Batman with scene showing same. Know the difference. Enjoy the movie. Contemplate, though, the cultural connections...what to make of the USA's affection for massive gunfire? Not sure where this is going...

It might have the immediate effect of lessening sales, but tasteless or not it's given the movie cult status before it's even seen much time in theatres. It would be a shame if it affected movie ratings and not gun control laws.

"The trailer, which had been playing ahead of “The Dark Knight Rises” in some locations, features a scene in which men open fire with machine guns on an audience in a movie theater."

Not much you can do about that. In the wake of the disasters of March 11th last year the Japanese Film Board delayed a bunch of movies, and cancelled trailers, some completely irrelevant, but some that were very certain to trigger ill feelings. At least they are trying to act in the public's interest, and I see no harm in that.

I think the whole thing with security is not how dangerous movie theaters are, or how frequent mass killings are, but the worry about copycats. Which is a very real worry. A lot of ppl are nearer to the edge than you'd imagine. The cult status of the batman movies would be an incentive. Security is probably a good idea.

A nd pulling the adds, at least around the area where it happened might be a good idea. No need to shake ppl up unnecessarily.
