Texas Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish, 28, who was reported to be having a relationship with Fuji TV announcer Ayako Kato, 28, denied the rumor on his official Twitter site this week.

Sports Nippon reported on Feb 10 that Kato, popularly known as “Kato-pan,” and Darvish had dinner in a private room of an expensive restaurant in Tokyo.

Subsequently, there were a lot of comments from Darvish's Twitter followers asking whether or not the rumor was true. Darvish denied there was any romance, tweeting “No,” with a smile face mark, and additionally tweeting “Please don’t start following me trying to find out anything. Once again, I say there is nothing going on."

According to Fuji TV, Kato-pan is also denying the rumor.

She's cute. Though, I wonder what's with that -pan title among female announcers. It's like they're a type of bread or something.

Yes. Ichiro married an announcer. Daisuke Matsuzaka married an announcer. Kazuhisa Ishii married an announcer. Hideki Okajima married an announcer. Kan Otake married an announcer. Kenta Maeda married an announcer. Kensuke Tanaka married an announcer. Yuki Saito married an announcer. Norichika Aoki married an announcer. Japanese ball players and TV announcers go together like a toothbrush and toothpaste.

TV personalities are the perfect catch, man. Super hot or at least well above average, make enough money to be at least somewhat independent, and dumb as a brick so you can get away with whatever you want.

Dating/marrying a tv announcer is the jewel in the crown for 日本セレブ。

The entertainment section can be useful to tell us about upcoming gigs, films, productions, etc. The personal life of any celebrity, including a man pretty much unknown outside the few baseball playing countries, doesn't really warrant a mention. This kind of story is what the likes of Tokyo Sports is for.

Y'know, women are more than their face. That's given by nature. It's personality that counts.
