NEW YORK —
Robert De Niro is expanding his business empire with a new chain of Japanese-themed hotels. It will be the latest of his Nobu ventures, and follows a string of Japanese restaurants around the world - a partnership with chef Nobu Matsuhisa and Richie Notar. The first Nobu hotel will open in the Israeli resort of Herzliya this summer, followed by one in New York’s financial district over the next two-to-four years.
Notar jokes of the new hotel, which will have a Japanese flavor throughout, “Instead of a mint on the pillow, you could find a sushi roll.” De Niro’s son Raphael, who is in charge of marketing the properties, adds, “It’s really exciting for us.”

BigDudeGSO, oooh, clever.
Has anyone been to any of DeNiro's Japanese restaurants? Did the sushi police give him a gold star or anything?

I bet Japan has already done a DeNiro themed hotel.

I've been to a few of the Nobu places, the one in Tokyo is very close to my office and I've been for lunch a few times. The food is tasty, fresh & well-presented, extremely consistant, smooth service, fairly spacious. Though my local sushi place and my Japanese wife's cooking remove any desire to go more than a couple times of year. Expat gaijin who are intimidated by decent local sushi places might find comfort here and won't be put off by the prices.

Did they intentionally forget to say "Love Hotels"? I believe that would be the only Japanese theme hotel. Unless they count non-smoking rooms that stink of cigarettes; one towel per day; cleaning ladies that enter your room even when the DO NOT DISTURB sign is out; one inch thick dust clouds under the beds; used soap and a sign that says, "Please help us conserve our environment"; check-in after 3:00pm only and check-out by 11:00am; "Parking for your convenience available" - but you must please pay a charge - limited to 17 cars only - have a nice stay"...

I have nothing but great experiences in Japanese hotels. They are the most professional group of workers.

"Japanese hotels"
You have to have money to burn to be able to afford to stay in Japanese hotels.
