That relationship had been going on since the 90s... sounds to me like Heard came in as a homewrecking gold-digger. I don't particularly like him, and recently even less so... but I feel for him a bit here.

You don't need to get it. Plenty of women and men marry someone who has a history of abuse. It's fine and dandy to say "Don't marry them" but there are a lot of issues and whatnot involved in DV. Anyone who has ever tried helping someone in such a situation knows how easy it is to say, how frustrating it is to watch and how difficult it is to get the person to leave.

Frankly, I'm tired of all the gold digging comments. Why is NO ONE making comments about HIM leaving the mother of his two kids for a much younger woman? No "trade up" jokes, no "get rid of ion the old one" type things? Oh right, because regardless of if he beat her or not, she's a gold digging whore. Would folks be making the same comments if their daughter married an older man who beat her? I highly doubt it.

I worked on the set of 21 Jump Street back in the 80's and Johnny Depp was by far the most mellow actor I have ever worked around. Not saying the phone throwing incident did or did not happen but I'd have to wonder at the state of a person's mind which would go and get married knowing that they were in an abusive relationship beforehand. Also, she got Depp into a load of trouble in Australia forcing the their dogs in on the trip. Pretty sure Depp could have lived without the dogs while filming was going on. The more I think about it, the more I feel sorry Mr Depp.

Funny you should be defending someone who is obviously lying about the violence to get leverage in a divorce. This a common procedure, in fact.

Domestic violence is indeed a very serious issue for many women who see no way out. When a relatively privileged woman uses claims of violence as a trick to extort money, you should be very angry. As more and more women do this, the real victims of domestic violence will find it harder to get help.

Of course, if you choose to believe one of her less convincing performances, be my guest. I though her Zombieland work was winning stuff, but she's working without a director in her latest role, and it shows.

Why? That's the most obvious thing about this case, regardless of whether he was violent. She wants lots of money for a year of marriage that made her a household name and increased her earning potential. She should be paying him.

Sorry, but I fail to see how my post about her seeming to be a gold digger is sexist. If it's the truth it definitely isn't sexist, and I haven't said anywhere that men can't be gold diggers either. Also... I never said that Johnny Depp isn't just a cradle robber... that's what it was as far as I'm concerned. Somebody else said he was going for something he knew he couldn't have and obviously he had her so that's not the truth, but even if it was, she put it out there to be had. The reason I said it seemed like this is because of his former defacto partner's comments. If I'm wrong then I'm wrong and so be it but the comment had nothing to do with sexism. Sometimes women can be gold diggers and that is what this seems like.
