Silly me. I always assumed the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was all about...you know... rock and roll. Apparently not.

The very FIRST word in this article tells you how wrong all this is...
Donna Summer? Public Enemy?

Donna Summer is in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. Deep Purple is not. That tells you everything you need to know about the people who make the decisions.

Deep Purple had ONE hit that is still remembered. Summer had quite a few.

backing vocals to the Everclear song, "AM Radio"

Rush.. Third, only behind the Beatles and the Stones for the most consecutive gold or platinum albums. Gee. Do you think they are ready?

Yay, Donna!
But, DEEP PURPLE is WAY past overdue!

Deep Purple has one hit, but countless... COUNTLESS artists that it has influenced. You can't say the same about Donna, unless your talking about whats-her-name (pick one).
Besides... who ever said the number of hits was the entry key?

A "Hall of Fame" implies being famous. Hard to be famous without any - or few - hits. How many "one-hit wonders" are out there? Deep Purple has ONE hit they are remembered for, and I'd wager at least half of the reason the song is famous is because it's relatively easy to play the intro by beginner guitar players. I'd support the SONG being inducted before I'd support the band being inducted because the song got more kids to pick up a guitar.
