    49 isn't really old anymore

Yeah, right. If you're a guy. Let's not forget the double standard.

  • borscht at 08:11 AM JST - 4th July

A 29-year age difference could cause some problems (he might have a view of the world beyond his keitai; she might not. Or vice versa.) but before we jump on Nakamura for being a pig, please remember that at age 54 Charlie Chaplin married Oona O'Neill who was 18 at the time. Their marriage only lasted 34 years - Charlie died.

When love comes knocking, it doesn't care about age or height or skin color or anything else people make decisions based on.

"Yeah, right. If you're a guy. Let's not forget the double standard."

Yes there is a double standard, though you'd be remiss to omit that it's not entirely a cultural problem; there is a tendency for women to go for older men (and vice versa) for biological/evolutionary reasons. (women tend to go more for status, men for youth and looks - a fertility indicator).

What I find curious is the women who get so offened by the "MILF/couger" phenomenon, saying the terms are degrading, etc... I thought that an increasing in the willingness for people to view older women as attractive was supposed to be a good thing?

In anycase, if you are concerned about equality, then you should be hoping that more people open up o the idea of older female/younger male reationships (eg ashton kutcher/demi moore) rather than dumping on this relationship by assuming they guy is some sort of pedator.

My great-great x n grandparents way back in the mid-19th century had an age gap of 29 years; he was 53 when they married, she 24. It was his third marriage, her first. They had 4 children and stayed married (happily, I presume) until he died at the age of 70, after which she remarried someone only 4 years older than herself.

Granted if Ms Onaga was my daughter I would have lots of misgivings, if only for the fact that she's likely to be a very young widow. But I wish them every happiness and hope they have the support of both families.

In anycase, if you are concerned about equality, not equality - more like hypocrisy.

then you should be hoping that more people open up o the idea of older female/younger male reationships (eg ashton kutcher/demi moore) You have to admit, Ms. Demi possesses the good looks / youthful thing. She's also loaded. So it's not only women who seek "status" (read "money")

rather than dumping on this relationship

I'm "dumping"? That is an overreaction.

by assuming they guy is some sort of pedator. I am assuming what? That's reading a lot into it.

    PED-ator? Creative.

Guys become financially more powerful as they age (if they are good with personal finances and money management, that is). On the other hand, women become less valuable as they age.

  • Triumvere at 02:55 PM JST - 4th July

Ha. Not intentional, sadly, but funny all the same.

The dumping comment wasn't specifically targeted at you, but rather at people's general attitudes about such relationships in general. The girl is always a golddigger and the guy a dirty old man; I think that this is because people cannot envision themselves falling in love with someone older and thus cannot believe that others could genuinely do so. Its a gut reaction.

That said, I think such relationships aren't really a good idea; to much potential for problems. But, true love conquers all, they say.

Are you implying that Kutcher is the relationship primarily for money/publicity? Do you have any reason to believe that other than the fact that she has status/money? I didn't say women necessarily went after money (many clearly do, though wanting financial viablity in a partner and golddigging are not necessarily the same thing). Their are many other "status" elements, things like experience and confidence which are genrally important to many women, which can be associated with older men.

what about bets on how long they last longer than 'Sam' and 'Amuro'?

It's possible - you seem to be a little defensive about this.

There's a lot of rich older women who go to the carribean and take home a souvenir to live with. Think "How Stella Got Her Groove Back". Of course, they end up supporting their "friend".

The girl is always a golddigger and the guy a dirty old man.

Donald Trump DOES come to mind.

Marrying up is sometimes referred to as "settling". If you can't get what you want, you settle for money.

Marla Maples started seeing a guy closer to her own age on the side. I can't imagine why.

Experts on alcoholism have noted that if there is a difference of 15 or more years in age between couples that there is also a marked tendency for one or both to be addicts. It has to do with "ego inflation", which is one of the hallmarks of addiction.

    There'$ only one rea$on why $omeone would marry $omeone el$e from their parent'$ generation...

$ame rea$on why a pretty girl would want to marry an all-$tar.

But, let'$ not forget thi$ pearl of wi$dom: Marry a girl pretty enough to turn you on. Any prettier, and you're a$king for trouble.

It was widely speculating that he was with her to improve his career. But the point is: you don't know. People merely jump to conclusions.

I'll reiterate: I don't think such relationships are a good idea - their is too much potential for problems and manipulation. But that doesn't mean that love is such situations impossible.

I wish them live happily after their wedding.

I understand about some middle aged men jealousy. I do not wish to interfere celebrities private life. It is their own choice. If my daughter wants to marry someone who is older than me, I can not tell her to stop. Of course! I am not happy. However I will not interfere.

Back in 1980, young pop star Moe Moe Yamaguchi married Actor Tomokazu Miura. She was only 20 at that time too. Her husband was many years older. They made many movies together. After 28 yrs, they are still happily after with three kids.

I am holidaying in Taiwan. In Dr Sun Yet Sum(Chinese national hero) museum, I read about his biography. His last wife Sung Chi Ling was 30 years junior than him. They married in 1914.Sung Chi Ling was US Educated she cared him until his last breath.

Actor Tom Cruise married actress Katie Holmes who is many yrs younger. Some young girls fall for some older men because these men has special quality and charm. In the real life, how many Masato Nakamura, Tom Cruise, Dr Sun Yet Sum existed? They are something special.

If they are thinking of having kids, it is very important that she be under 35. If Masato's wife were over 35, the chance of a Down's Syndrome baby would double at least. No sane person should attempt it. Since Maki-chan is only 20, the baby should be very healthy. As far as their union, all the benefits of his career seem to be going to waste as she just wants to be a housewife. Well, as they say, work is for suckers.

People always look at the mother. The age of the father is also a factor. It's suggested that when Queen Victoria introduced haemophilia into the British royal family (and hence into several other European royal families), she had received the faulty gene from her father Prince Edward, who was in her fifties when she was conceived.
