Ex-marathon gold medalist Naoko Takahashi starts 'talent' career
Naoko Takahashi promotes a DVD on Monday.

TOKYO —

Naoko Takahashi, 36, who won the gold medal in the women’s marathon at the Sydney Olympics, on Monday appeared at a promotional event for the DVD release of “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.” It was her first job as a “talent” after announcing her retirement from marathons last month.

Takahashi said, “I used to see famous actresses appearing at these sort of events on TV, but I never imagined I would do the same thing one day. It must be embarrassing to watch me on TV.”

The DVD and Blu-ray version will be released on Nov 21.

I predicted that she would have a career waiting for her in the Japanese Geino-kai. She looks very cute here in her urban safari outfit. No need to worry about feeling embarrassed, though. I'm sure she will "outrun" the competition.

I was like her when she was runner.. She was sooo hard runner I mean she try to recover from her knee, feet and back problems. And she try to marathon again and again. But always if she want to marathon something will happen to her body. When I get slump on my run I was love to watch her running style because Her running was always cheering me and made me happy too.

I guess I can't see her marathon on Tv but I would like to watch she is going to nice activity talent career!!

    Good Luck Naoko Takahashi!

Yes, Naoko. It is. But it's cash in the bank and better than handing out tissues at railway stations.

And her "talent" now is? She isn't acting, singing, or even giving the standard opinion on TV for women as: oishii!, Honto?, Kawaii! What qualifies for "talent" here?

ptolemy, She's famous. As a runner with a nice smile. That's it and, apparently, that's enough. Now she'll become famous as a 'talento.'

Actually, Q-chan has been a darling of the Japanese media (and public) for years--she is eloquent, has a charming personality and is of course kawaii: basically she has everything it takes to be a talento (TV personality) in Japan! (Do you really think SMAP can act, let alone sing?) Hasn't she already appeared on Hitachi's "World Mysteries" quiz program?

At least she will fast enough to evade the press during scandals...

    Nah, nobody's that fast.

"Best talentoist", maybe? Well, good luck to her, have to make a living somehow and I doubt athletics prepares people for their retirement.

Noripinhead - are you saying that talentos need to be eloquent and charming? Has anyone informed the array of talentos about this?

if she can strecth out an "oiiishiiii" for more than 2 seconds she's more than qualified.

Why doesn't she become a coach, or sports journalist?

If you judge a career based on peers, then surely being a talent is a step down on the career ladder for her - you need no skills, abilty, or talent. You just need to be a buffoon in front of 125m people.
