Beyonce is a total babe.

I got to agree with that. Everyone knows Beyonce CAN sing. It was just that the cold weather would make it hard. So why risks it? What would those naysayers say if she cracked her voice a little due to the weather? Would people rather something like that happened in such a historical event?

Neither of those two sang "The Star-Spangled Banner" so if they flub, no one cares much (except for them). The American National Anthem is noted for it's difficulty even on a good day. The song covers one and a half octaves so you need to have your "A" game to nail it. Most of us cheat on the lower end or the upper end (whichever is hardest) because we never have to sing it solo and our mistakes get covered up. No such luck for these singers at public events. It's one thing to flub the national anthem at a sporting event, it's another to have the cold affect your singing to the point you make a mistake during arguably one of America's premiere government functions - the peaceful transfer (or in this case, continuation) of power. Even the Marine Band pre-records when there might be a weather-related issue with performing the National Anthem live. As long as they used HER voice in a recording specifically made for THIS event, I don't really have an issue with it. She still got out there in front of the people rather than "phoning it in".

i agree that fumbling while singing the National Anthem would have been a bad thing and in that way it is sort of justified by playing it, taking a safer option but why do this drama of holding a mike and fooling people. They could have just just played it without Beyonce pretending to sing and people would join themselves. Holding a mike and pretending was just fooling.

I agree with iichiban. If it's okay to play a recorded version of the national anthem, even at such an important and high profile event such as this one, then why bother pretending that the singer and the band are performing it live? I would much rather have it sung and played live, imperfections and all, then know or suspect that it's just a recording with the singer just mouthing the words.

Because if they didn't show up, then people on places like JT would claim it was someone else's voice. The singers still want the visual credit as well as the audio credit for doing the song.

They have to do this because there are no monitors and the artists can not hear.. like at baseball stadiums it is not something you want to mess around with no matter who is singing.. and just a note.. America the Beautiful is a much better song anyway..
