Cannot wait for Little Busters to start! I love the Key visual novels and despite KyoAni not doing the anime adaptation this time I've still got high hopes for it. Also looking forward to To Love-Ru Darkness.

Robotics;Notes is actually from a popular manga, so I'm surprised that middle school metal disease was included instead of that.

I've only heard of like one of those titles, they must be...

shonen hi-skool harem romantic comedies ... where's the death notes? where's the fate zeroes? where's the darker than blacks ? the hellsing ultimates ... the blood+ the kuroshitsuji 3 ? ... halpz, where's the black lagoons ?

Every season there is one anime or none that I like.

Wish the Japanese anime companies continued making these series: Chihayafuru, Glass Mask, Skip Beat!, Slam Dunk, and Kuroko's Basketball.

It would be great if they would release: Until Death Do Us Part, GTO: 14 Days in Shonan, Inital D Ffth Stage, and Wa Ga Na Wa Umish as anime.

Yeah, why are the 90% of these titles the otaku type? I'm looking forward to Zetsuen, KK (this one especially, loved the trailer). Shin Sekai Yori looks awesome, at least the first episode.

And of course, GINTAMA. Everyone's been waiting for it.

Almost all the titles in the article remind me of Japanese tv shows, especially the manne in which they're voiced. So maybe it's to be expected?

If it's airing past midnight, it's an otaku title.

Considering most of the people agree with me, why all the downvotes??? Either we have some closet super-otakus or someone is assuming robotics;notes is about nuclear plant robots...

How about Kamisama Dolls S2, The World God only knows S3, Kore wa Zombie Desu ka S3? Still waiting for Kizumonogatari. Something like "Another" would be nice also.

A person can be an anime fan without being otaku. Liking something does not mean being obsessed with it. However I have seen none of the above.

Been a fan of Hayate no Gotoku (Hayate the Combat Butler) in manga form for a while. The manga has been out for 8 years now and still is going strong. I hear this will be the third anime series from that manga, and there was a live action series too, I guess. The mangaka must be doing SOMETHING right!

Gintama is like the J-version of US Family Guy/Futurama ish. I love it still. Haven't finished up a lot of series that I've been interested in though. When I have time to get back into the game I'll see whats up.

I am glad to see coverage of one of the most important areas of modern visual culture in Japan. Yes the fall season has some hopeful new series, and there are definite plans for second seasons announced already for some existing favorites, including HightSchool DxD, Boku Ha Tomodachi Ga Sukunai which just saw an OVA, ep 13 released, and the very beautiful series Tamayura Hitotose set on the Inland Sea, which also just saw an OVA ep released that has some lovely festival content. Anime is alive and well in Japan today, and some of the series that came out this year were superb, among the very best yet in any genre, two of the, Ano Natsu de Matteru, drawn from Please Teacher, but wonderfully better and very very good, and Hyouka, an atypical school series set in a small provincial town with a small but brilliant cast and art and animation by JC Staff are among the best i have viewed and studied yet. The Fall Season has a number of familiar themes, future stories, many school related ones and a few new twists. We will see how it goes, but it takes four or five episodes to be able to judge the quality and direction of a new series.

Several ongoing series continue to run, including Sword Arts Online which tells a story set in a virtual game world, a new genre but one that will likely see a lot more versions as MMOs are very popular world wide and anime draws its subjects from all aspects of contemporary life.

Anime is much much more than just Otaku culture, it is a combination of traditional Japanese art, story telling, folk tales, and culture and daily life and many genres of fiction including romance, adventure, action, Science Fiction, horror, supernatural and much more. It is essential for a healthy culture to have story telling, tales, adventures beyond the limits of daily life and life circumstances that often limit and imprison our spirits and hearts. Our hopes and dreams are the energy that feed our souls and enliven our lives...and we need such not as escape but as fuel for our days and nights, beyond what may be possible within reach.

Sadly animation and modern media have fallen far behind Japan in some areas, but that is all to the good as it takes a special blend of discipline, energy and strength of vision and a LOT of very hard work to create and produce an anime series or film. This work is not easily done even with modern software and computing, and still takes skilled and gifted writers of both the original stories, for the mangas which are often the inspiration and source of the anime, and for the creation of the anime itself. All of this has rarely been found possible in other countries and cultures for a number of reasons but Anime as an art form and as a fine source of entertainment continues to flourish in Japan and 2012 has been a good year.

Gintama has some charm to it and has had a long run but is not among the best of the various series, in my humble opinion. If you have not seen any anime i reccomend starting with Moribito Guardian of the Spirit, set in early feudal times a classic story and fantastic art, or Inuysaha one of the greatest long series, close to 200 episodes, and just completed finally the two I mentioned above Hyouka and Anno Natsu de Materu are two very good recent ones, and there is an anime for just about any style, genre or period in history ....many revolve around youth themes, school, adventure and action..and sci fi has has a special place in the history of anime, with a huge literature of mecha, space and other themes.

Back in France when I was a kid, Saint Seiya and Kimagure Orange Road were extremely popular - I know I feel old now :-). Someone liked KOR so much he opened the first manga store in Paris and named it "Madoka".

@Ryu: I too really like KOR, would love to visit that store ;). 80s romance manga is the best. If you haven't, you should read Maison Ikkoku too.

blackrock: Exceedingly rare to bump into a fellow KOR fan nowadays :-) I remember Maison Ikkoku was running at pretty much the same time but Ayukawa had to be the most fascinating and best developed character of the time imho...
