Ahhhh... poor thing! Dustin Hoffman, Robin Williams and Martin Lawrence taking all those lead female roles! If only she could get recognition for her acting. Somebody should give her an Academy Award, or a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame!

Ms. Kidman, when then industry "neglects" you, that might be a clue that you're not what audiences want to see...

Sexism, age biases and don't forget race biasing, Hollywood at its finest.

Kidman is an exceptional actress as are many others who get to get fewer parts as they become older.

Female film makers are still a minority and while it may be because fewer women are willing to give filmmaking a try, there certainly are stereotypes and preconceptions regarding women in the film-making mill called Hollywood. Still, some of the above comments, seem to show that sexism, bias, etc. are not exclusive to Hollywood.

Look at the gender/racial makeup of the country and look at the makeup of actors in Hollywood media. Anyone can see that there's a discrepancy, and it's not just about talent. It's about money. Women/minorities don't draw audiences, because audiences aren't used to the idea of them as leads. Audiences don't see them as leads, because well, they actually don't get to see them as leads.

It's a societal cycle that takes time to change, but I think it is changing slowly. For anyone that disagrees with Kidman, just think about the number of older actors that still get roles vs the number of older actresses. Do actresses just suddenly become talentless when they visibly age past a certain point?

how very true. women only get to take female lead and supporting actor roles....... hollywood is one of the the mosr racist, sexist and anti-environmental industries in the US

Its all about money, and with the majority of moviegoers the male mouth breathers who lust after comic book crapola meant for 12 year-olds, women will be secondary.

With female characters you can find some exceptions (there were some top female roles in 40's movies) but female characters are usually just dolled up for titillation regardless of what their role is in the movie. Female roles don't take on 'male characteristics' if anything its the reverse, Hollywood would not have the stones to have genuinely masculine women in their movies. They keep regurgitating the same crap over & over. I don't mind the occasional comic book movie but I do agree with clamenza. There should be a variety of stories from different points of view & better developed characters. It will take time for things to change.

As a male writer of screenplays whose works feature female roles as the leads, I can unequivocally say there are not a lot of women producers and directors who will put their money where their mouths are. That's not a gender bias, on my part, but a comment on the industry as a whole. What Ms. Kidman and her like-minded cohorts should think about is getting together to provide those production funds to support their goals for women in the industry. Frankly I'm tired of seeing female roles subjugated to T&A. There's more to women than looks.

We buy tickets to movies we want to see. If Hollywood makes "equal opportunity" movies with wheelchair bound action heroes, transexual love dramas and so on, people will by and large not go see them. Hence, the movies are not made since there's not enough demand.

These women cashed in on their youthful beauty. Sorry to say, that's gone.

Sounds like Nicole Kidman should take some of the millions she received from the sexist Hollywood studios and start her own company. She can make movies that are fair to all and make millions all while putting those sexist Hollywood big shots out of business.

Hollywood makes movies in order to make money. Hollywood will chose the actors/actresses that will draw the most movie-goers, and video buyers. Nicole Kidman and Meryl Streep can form their OWN production companies, cast anyone they wish, and hope their company makes a profit. I wish them the best of luck.
