Former AKB48 singer Mariko Shinoda's fashion brand “ricori” has been pulled from the market.
Shinoda, 28, told her followers on Twitter that she was surprised to hear the news about the brand she helped design and "produce." On Wednesday, the brand announced on Twitter: “We are sorry to announce this so suddenly, but on July 15, we closed all stores selling the ricori brand," Nikkan Sports reported Thursday. No reason was given for the closure.
The brand was established in December 2012, and had stores in Tokyo, Osaka and Fukuoka, among other locations.

The big question for me is why things like this are reported in a paper with the word "Sports" in it. I like Shinoda, but I seriously doubt she was very heavily involved in the actual design. She might have had ideas, but it was others that translated Shinoda's visions in to reality.

More than likely, her AKB48 fame amongst girls and women wasn't enough to help the brand reach the "critical mass" required for sustained sales. Closing a business after only a couple of years usually means that the income was not covering the expenses.
