Former TV presenter Mie Yamaguchi, 51, was found dead at home by her family on Thursday, her management agency announced Friday. The cause of death was heart failure, the agency said.
According to the agency, Yamaguchi had not been feeling well for about a month and was seeing a doctor regularly. Her condition took a sudden turn for the worse on Wednesday.
Yamaguchi, who was educated at Saint Maur International School and Sophia University, was fluent in English and French. She worked as a presenter for the "CNN Headline" news program on TV Asahi in the 1980s and also appeared on variety programs.
She retired from the entertainment world in 1996 to care for her father who was suffering from Alzheimer's disease.
In recent years, she had been operating an imported goods store in Yokohama's Chinatown.

I think people forget that breast cancer (or any type of cancer) is not the number 1 killer of women, the number 1 killer of women is heart disease. I think a lot of awareness is given towards detection of breast cancer etc, but not a lot of focus on heart disease, they can hit women like men and the signs of a heart attack in a woman is a lot different from a man.

It looks like the doctor or hospital was at fault. From the first part of February she said she had dizziness and palpitations. After tests she was told there was nothing seriously wrong with her. Neighbors said she'd aged terribly in the last year.
