TOKYO —

The actresses who play the four lead roles in the popular American television drama, “Sex and the City,” will visit Japan on May 30 to promote the Japanese release of the second film version of the series, “Sex and the City 2.”

It will mark the first occasion for Sarah Jessica Parker, 45, Kim Cattrall, 53, Kristin Davis, 45, and Cynthia Nixon, 44, to be together in Japan. There was a lot of disappointment in Japan when none of the stars came for the release of the first film in the summer of 2008. The local distributor said there had been a huge number of requests from Japanese fans of the TV series for the four women to come this time.

Well known in Japan as being “New York’s Most Famous Women,” the actresses will each be receiving their own Mercedes Benz to use during their stay. The model E350 Cabreo convertible is featured in the film, and retails for around 8,980,000 yen. Fans eager to see the actresses in person are likely to swarm to Roppongi Hills for the June 1 premiere, as the actresses will be touring the area in their convertibles.

Both of the films are based on the successful TV series of the same name that ran in the U.S. from 1998 until 2004. The series and films focus on the romances and sex lives of four cosmopolitan women living in New York.

Many Japanese celebrities and television personalities are reportedly fans of the series, including actresses Norika Fujiwara and Misaki Ito.

Ninjazilla, "I wonder how many of the Japanese fans know Cynthia Nixon is now married to a woman?"

I wonder how many of those fans have seen much more shocking things in manga?

Ninjazilla, how many fans in general know that Cynthia Nixon played Mozart's maid in Amadeus?

The premise of 4 vibrant women, keeping their friendship alive through life's pitfalls, and milestones, while keeping their sense of humor, at any age, is sexy! I hope the girls have a few good laughs while in Tokyo!

I would much rather see a Japanese version of this R-rated show come out. I think my dream cast would involve Ms. Fujiwara herself, Erika Sawajiri, Crystal Tachikawa and Yuki Amami.

    Any takers?

You are truly blessed. It makes Japanese television look educated and interesting.

It was a "different" kind of "chick show". My ex-wife liked the show when they watched it in Russia. Maybe the show has more appeal to foreign women than American women. The ladies ARE getting kind of long in the tooth and the base premise of the TV show - "Always Searching for Mr. Right" - would seem even more of an act of futility at their current ages than it was when the TV show was on. Potential "Mr. Rights" are dying of age-related complications at their age.

I used to watch this show when ever I felt homesick, and then the homesickness would go away pretty quick.

HBO has produced some of the greatest TV; Sopranos, Rome, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Band of Brothers, Deadwood. Then they produced Sex and the City for the laydees. they all used the CD word though, cap doffed.

I prefer "Lipstick Jungle": fashion is great and actresses are so beautiful there, not like in the "Sex and the city"

I wonder if the hair dresser they sent over last time will be coming as well. They got her all gussied up for the PR do with Fujiwara Norika if I remember correctly.

Wonder if any of them will actually drive here? Liverpool-born Kim Catrall might be the only one confident enough to drive with the steering wheel on the right side of the car.

I've always had a problem with the idea that any of these 4 hags, but especially one in particular, were sought after. Oh well... no accounting for taste, I guess.
