TOKYO —
Singer-actor Gackt will perform the theme song for the new program “Kamen Rider Decade” to air next year, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Heisei Kamen Rider Series.
Lining up with the Heisei Riders, including Masahiro Inoue, 19, who plays the 10th Heisei Rider, Gackt sounded envious when he said: “I thought I could have played the lead role if there was any of the good boy left in me. But I’m just bad now.” He further joked: “My secret weapon would be throwing kisses.”
“Kamen Rider Decade” will air on TV Asahi on Sundays at 8 a.m. from Jan 25.

I don't understand the popularity of these "tokusatsu" shows like Kamen Rider and Ultraman. While SF TV shows in the US and UK have been moving forward in leaps and bounds, these things still feature people in tacky superhero outfits and daft monster costumes jumping about on top of Tokyo office buildings pretending to hit each other and growling or shouting portentously. The genre seems to be stuck in the 1960s, except that even old 60s black and white episodes of Doctor Who look good by comparison.
