Girls of Natto Angel express their love for natto

TOKYO —

In honor of “Natto Day” Friday (so named after July “na” and 10 “to”), the group Natto Angel, made up of members of the popular girl’s group AKB48 Miho Miyazaki, 15, Tomomi Itano, 18, and Tomomi Kasai, 17, assembled at a promotional event on Friday.

They performed their song, “Natto Angel,” featuring lyrics like “Natto is good for your intestines” and “For those who don’t like natto, we’ll be there right away.”

Natto is one of the most disgusting "foods" I have ever encountered. It looks bad, smells bad, and tastes disgusting. These three "natto tarts" do nothing for me, and I cant see them doing much for natto either - other than to put more people off it. Im told its good for you, and now these girls are saying its good for our intestines. No thanks - I want to keep my intestines free of amaeba.

Either way, I have got to like it over the years, expecially the Tamba black bean variety, and actually watch my own hand go out, pick up three or so, and place them into my shopping basket. All kinds of ways of eating the stuff too!

Mr Zaichik was buying natto in an Asian grocery store here in Auckland the other day. Looking rather taken aback, the cashier said to him, "Do you know what that is?" Mr Zaichik answered in the affirmative. The cashier said, "I guess your wife must be Japanese." Mr Zaichik replied, "No, she isn't - we just lived in Japan and got to like natto a lot."

After all, it smells no worse than some cheeses. Natto omelette is really good!

I am an old man who eats Natto every day and it keeps my blood thin and I have no clots. Besides, I like the taste and old men have no sense of smell.

Natto made me tear up the first time I tried it... about 3 months later I tried it again; I think it got worse. It doesn't taste too bad but the smell always gets to me.
