Goriki hopes voice acting role in 'X-Men' film will lead her to Hollywood

Actress Ayame Goriki hopes that her role in the Japanese voice cast for the upcoming “X-Men: Days of Future Past” film will be the first step toward a Hollywood career.

The 21-year-old actress visited Zojoji Temple in Tokyo on Thursday week to offer a prayer that her wish might come true.

In the upcoming film, directed by Bryan Singer and starring Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence, the X-Men send Wolverine to the past in a desperate effort to change history and prevent an event that results in doom for both humans and mutants.

Goriki will supply the voice for the character of Raven/Mystique, played by Academy Award winner Lawrence. The film opens in Japan on May 30.

Goriki is currently one of Japan's most visible faces, making frequent appearances at various events. She currently appears in ad campaigns for 12 different companies.

I really hope not...

If she really wants to go for it, being able to speak good, unaccented English is required.

I beg to differ. She would be perfect as Miho in the next Sin City and wouldn't have to speak a word.

God no.

Best of luck to her cracking a racist Hollywood system that still likes to portray Asian women as submissive and hyper sexual play things (if at all). If from Asia, then she'll be stuck with side roles as the love partner of the White leading actor, or something even more minor in the background.

@Kanoe81 yep. Not to mention actual ACTING skills.

Keep hoping...

well first youll need good english skills, then some acting talent. does she have any?

3 ( +5 / -2 )

She is cute as can be. Wolverine had a good Japanese actress, if I remember right. There is a beauty in purity and to pray is transcendent. Look up that temple and the history of Amitābha. What art as well! Impressive.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Keep on dreaming!

I'm sure if they ever need someone who can't speak English properly and has absolutely zero talent, they will put her at the back or the long list of those they already have.

She can keep hoping but it is never going to happen. She's not that pretty or even a good actress.

Kikuchi Rinko isn't gorgeous but is an excellent actress. Okamoto Tao isn't very experienced but speaks English well and is is very beautiful.

Doing corny and silly AU/KDDI commercials, and doing actual screen acting are vastly different worlds!

Can she speak native Southerrn Californian English? Not easy to be employed in Hollywood. The actors usually are excellent in singing, dancing, sport, too. Even horse ridings and also can steer left handled cars, too. Many extras are waiting to be picked, Cals State U, USC, UCLA students are working as extras there.

She needs more than religion and good luck combined,

Since when??? Have you actually SEEN what Hollywood has been cranking out lately?

@Pandabelle: Since when??? Have you actually SEEN what Hollywood has been cranking out lately?

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

Yes. Sin City, Lady Ga Ga had a role because she could sing. For new Wonder Woman role, an Israel actress got the role because she is strong and athlet. Just cute blond is not guarantee. Then Hollywood production companies. you have to remit your resume including your school (colleges) record as actors need to have good memory power. Then you have to sing and dance on test session, A lot of /TV roles. Former stars get jobs but they have to prove at interview and some are lucky. For Anime, Many are made in Japan and American voice actors/actresses are used. It seems that studios couldn;t care less how funny Japanese words are pronounced. Pkemon. Ninja Turtle, and so many Cartoon Network. Ben Ten is popular, too.

I don't get it.

At the very minimum she needs decent English skills and acting talent, as well as being easy on the eye. Rinko Kikuchi is probably the most well-known Japanese actress in Hollywood; maybe she can ask oneesan for some tips. At this point a Japanese returnee from an English-speaking country with acting skills may have a better chance than her.

Seems a little naive, don't you think? Voice actors are a dime a dozen! What, exactly, does she think she can add to the already full pool of voice talent in Hollywood? Her "cute" voice? Ugh...

I'm kinda surprised how JT readers are quick to criticize and bash the artists that are featured, let me remind you that these artist are popular no matter what you say, even if they aren't good singers, dancers, or actors, they do have the talent to attract people and make them buy their CDs, and watch their dramas, or musicals.

I just watched Goriki Ayame in "Watashi no Kirei na Tantei" her acting is not brilliant but it isn't that bad, if she has the dream to make it in Hollywood, good for her, I just hope that she takes seriously and study, improving her acting and learning well English.

I Hope she uses this chance well.

@JoiceRojo: We are talking reality of Hollywood jobs. One more thing, Hollywood actors and actresses sure know how to use wigs. She could be blond in one and brown in another. Bald head old man in one and nicely combed scientist in another. Old washed out actors/actresses are glad Sony has Sony Entertainment Television and it hired as voice actors. English perfect Japanese American actresses exist in Hollywood. they don''t speak Japanese but they get roles easily/

@toshiko I've failed to see your comment related to mine, you have a good point, but how is it related to a talent like Goriki Ayame?

She's a young, attractive and fairly talented actress. If she wants to go to Hollywood then best of luck to her.
