Damn, another loss to cancer. He was superb in "Die Hard." I watch it every Christmas.

So sad. I loved his characters in Dogma and Galaxy Quest.

Great actor. 69 is pretty young, but still a decent long life. He'll live on in cinema. Kids will likely be watching Harry Potter for decades to come.

He sounds like such a good guy, based on what his friends have said here. He was a good actor, and his roles reflected what must have been a healthy sense of humour. He is missed.

RIP

One of the best movie villains ever!

"Dogma" and "Galaxy Quest" are two of my favourite movies! Watched Alan for the first time in "Quigley Down Under" where he played the villain we all love to hate. Such an awesome actor, he even made "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" watchable. And I'm so sad I could just... call off Christmas!

He had the knack of making bad guys likeable... the sheriff of Nottingham, Hans Gruber... awesome actor and a sad loss to us as movie goers

Alan, by Grabthar's Hammer, you will be remembered!

I loved him in Die Hard as well. He personified the villain mastermind to a tee. R.I.P.

Trivia: In the final scene of that movie, the director told him that they'd let his hand go and let him free fall at the count of three. The director, John Tiernan, to get the most natural reaction from him, lied. They let go at one. So what you see there on his face as he falls is a genuine look of shock and befuddlement. LOL

I can't believe Hans Gruber is dead. I must have missed 60 Minutes.
