When one of my coworker's cube got plastered with those pastel cuties, I got curious about market penetration. They're all over the place! Hope they stay friendly. ;-]

She is the current designer not the creator, the creator is Yuko Shimizu, Yuko Yamaguchi is the 3rd person to "design it" she is just a staff member at Sanrio.

I prefer the vintage Kitty with more blues and reds though, the endless pink of today isn't very edgy

Congratulations, Sanrio. The Chinese are not the only ones good at copying.

The female rabbit “Miffy” was originally created in Holland. It has been requested that Sanrio stop the production of their character “Cathy”, which is a copy of Miffy and infringes on their copyright. On the 2nd an Amsterdam court already ordered 3 European countries to immediately stop manufacturing the “Cathy” character. Japan has decided on this as a temporary measure.

And like the Chinese Sanrio was not about to abandon their profitable copy cat-rabbit scheme. Disgusting.

Hello Kitty will be fine as a product/cartoon. As far as, “There are new cartoon characters that are coming out daily… (but) I think Hello Kitty is the only one that can adapt to the changes in the world,” Yamaguchi said. Mickey Mouse and other cartoons that are way past the 40 year mark say good job & keep it up. There are some cartoon figures that become a part of the culture & keep going.

No need to defend Kitty-chan -- she'll be around for ages, and won't be replaced. Brown and Cony (and their little duck friend) are definitely cute (I don't really think Kitty-chan is), but they're not really comparable in my opinion, and both can easily exist without 'replacing' or 'being replaced'.

I loved Kitty since the first time my aunt gave me a handmade pillowcase for my bed and kitty was embroidered in it by my aunt herself, it was very simple, yet so cute, I love cats, and Cartoon characters are unforgettable, like Kitty herself, Garfield, or Silvester, also, don't forget Doraemon
