TOKYO —

Actress Hitomi Kuroki, 50, and comedian Junior Chihara, 37, have been honored at the 12th annual “Best Swimmer” awards. The pair were honored for helping to spread the popularity of the swimming.

“When I was a kid, I used to go swimming every day in the kind of river in which you’d expect to see a water sprite,” said Kuroki who also revealed that she has been taking part in “aquabics” for the past few years. “I like to collect my thoughts by exercising in water before I go on
stage. I feel water really affects me.”

Chihara revealed that he likes to visit Miyako Island in Okinawa every month. “I like to think of new material for TV shows while I swim. I think I used to be a sea creature in a past life, ” he said.

Okinawa's sea water is clear, ideally for swimming and spending a good time with family members. I believe the couple is awarded to promote "swimming" as healthy exercise and relaxation to all ages; not only kids and young people, but retirees and seniors can find more interesting about swimming in a river, sea and swimming pools. Parents can take children to a swimming pool or beach on weekend or holidays.

I had to google water sprite.

A water sprite (also called a water fairy or water faery) is a general term for an elemental spirit associated with water, according to alchemist Paracelsus. Water sprites are said to be able to breathe water or air, and in some cases, can fly. They are mostly harmless unless threatened.

What Japanese translator would use the term water sprite? I guess he memorized it from one of those ridiculous HS books on vocal to get into a univerisity.

shogakko no toki wa inaka no kawa de kappa no yo ni oyoideita.

It's a mistranslation. She said that she used to swim like a kappa. But apparently that's also an idiom meaning to swim well.
