Hollywood must think bigger about China, says producer

If Hollywood wants to make a complete killing in China, all they have to do is make movie that glorifies the CCP and dictatorship, denounces democracy, nukes Japan, takes over Taiwan. Southeast Asia then the rest of the world and the entire planet sends tributes to Peking each year. It could be marketed with a straight face in China and as Science Fiction in the rest of the world. Not sure how to prevent pirate DVDs though.

Chinese films in general are crap. Boring wire action and/or kung-fu. Snoooooooze. And the other stuff they make, like dramas and comedies, are dull.

The only Chinese movie I can think of that was good was, "Red Sorghum".

It is untrue and exaggeration. PRC financed nationalistic propaganda "1911" failed in the local PRC market . It did not make any splash of capturing the interest of audience and movie goers. That movie was a big budget production and casted with popular Chinese actors and actresses. Entertainment is an art. Spending fortune and casting heavy weight stars will not translate as box office success.

On the contrary, "Lilfe of Pi" movie of Fox studio stormed the PRC box office which is the largest in the world. Fox earned largest slice of box office income from PRC alone. US box office income was just a fraction of world wide income.

The moral of that story is propanganda mouthpiece movie can not make money or capture the interest of audience. Success comes from talent, artistic expression and good story lines.
