Will it win after doing something like that?

I would be less inclined to vote for it.
Though I haven&t seen it yet. Maybe it&s good enough it wouldn&t matter.

Considering all the petty politics in these silly award shows, this just pretty much sealed his movie not winning best picture.

Is saying "Vote for 'The Hurt Locker' not a $500 million film" really "disparaging" another film?

I haven't read the full e-mail but from what was quoted here, it isn't like he was calling any other film cr@p (he might have done. I don't know.)

hurt locker - good gritty film. Avatar - nice special fx (but was star wars really a great movie?). Heard the 3D version was cool. Can't wait for Green Zone...nice and controversial...and Matt Damon.

He was saying you do not have to spend a ton of money to make a great film, so look at the film, and not at the cash spent to make it.

On the other hand, "Avatar" kept Hollywood employed for five years and is a great looking movie. It's given us all a new vision and a new vocabulary. So, I think it is additive. I went to see it again recently, and while it is not "Lord of the Rings" as such, it breaks new ground addressing the incredibly depressing situation Earth is in RIGHT NOW. So, I give it props and hope it wins many Oscars.

To say that it is the best war film ever is going a bit far. But yes, it was an excellent film that deserves due credit. One bone of contention in the film though was the sniper ambush. There is no way that guy would have hit the enemy at that range without training. He was just WAGing.

Just had an article in the Wash D.C. paper the other day saying Iraq veterans in general are panning "Hurt Locker" because the protagonist is too much of a "cowboy". It looks good on the big screen but they say it just isn't the way they really act.

I never watch war dramas, there are enough in real life. We already know very well that nothing about war can be good. No need to watch this one either.
