Tuesday 14th April, 02:00 AM JST
TOKYO —
Pop groups Idoling!!! and AKB48 performed together for the first time this week under the name AKB Idoling!!! – a new group formed with eight members from each of the original groups. The 16 girls sang 6 songs in front of about 2,000 fans at ShinKiba Studio Coast, including their debut single “Chuu shiyou ze!” or “Let’s kiss!,” which was at No. 2 on the Oricon Style singles charts as of Monday.
Mai Oshima, 21, who will retire from AKB48 after their performance at NHK Hall in Shibuya on April 26, said: “I’m really happy to finish with these memories.” Erika Tonooka, 17, said of the new group: “If we put out a lot of songs, we can change the members and everyone can perform as AKB Idoling!!!”

"the 16 girls"? What happened to the rest of them? There used to be 32 more of them...

Three exclamation points cannot begin to highlight the earth-shaking significance of this development.

“If we put out a lot of songs, we can change the members and everyone can perform as AKB Idoling!!!”
What does this mean??? Is she breaking up the group already??? Is she trying to include the missing girls??? Is there any way to stop the proliferation of gratuitous, useless punctuation???

I'd love to go to one of their concerts, merely to see the evolution of the Japanese male.

Glad to see the 'we're losing popularity so let's move onto the next gimmick' scam is still alive and well. I doubt this 'new' band will have the same short shelf life as when Morning Musume started adding infants and old ladies in a bid to scatter the range of interest (exaggeration) and ended up with 18 members or so, but hey.
Come on... give us some bands where people can actually sing, write their own music, and/or actually play some instruments. As it is, 'talento' retains zero talent.

Wakarimasen: My thoughts exactly or if not J Pop maybe adult movies. Another pre-fab J-Pop group with no reason for being.
